NJ Dad Under Arrest After Sick 3-Year-Old Found to Have Methadone in Blood

Roberto Delgado-Gonzalez of Guttenberg has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following his arrest the previous day.

Guttenberg police officers responded to a basement apartment on 68th Street between Park Avenue and Broadway following a report about an unresponsive child. That's where they found the young boy who was then transported to a local hospital where he remained in stable condition.

During the investigation, New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency told detectives that the boy’s blood toxicology test was positive for methadone.

The boy's 44-year-old father, who is employed as a teacher at the League of Extraordinary Children, was then placed under arrest.

How could a little 3-yr-old get to a methadone stash? Or was it even stashed away somewhere? Was it on the kitchen table? I have no idea, but I would think it would be hidden somewhere -- not only to keep the child (children-??) away, but to conceal it in case a LEO or landlord search might be performed for whatever reason; or a curious repair/maintenance person...
Hope the child survives, and I hope he/she is placed in a place way from that home.

It's a daycare. Not sure if that makes it better or worse.

Yes -- a daycare -- I looked it up, and it seemed to look okay, but don't they all. It certainly could be top-notch, but there's no way to know just looking at a web sage or two.

JMO Dear Friend, but I'd guess either it's a take home liquid or he is buying or taking "Dollies"? That's the pills named after Hitler, but I'll spare y'all.

Being a "teacher" maybe he got "take homes" so he didn't have to travel and wait in line each day.

Liquid chains may have put this sweetheart doll baby in a hospital.

Double post obviously, and all I care about is this lilguy, but apparently or supposedly he is not a US citizen?

Just asking. Not debating. How do you teach at a daycare? How are you not the parent, but responsible for kids under 18? Why do you NOT keep your "done" on your person or if liquid freaking put it where this poor child couldn't sip it up?

If dependant this dude got SICK in lock up. Worse than heroin. Some mean *** ****.

Lil Guy may you be healthy, well, and never do drugs in this lifetime of yours or any other.

Sorry just seeing this Lady L. "Liquid Chains" is what many recovering heroin addicts used to call, and some still do the liquid form of methadone. As in you show up every single day for your dose. Many people never get off it. Sometimes after a loooonnnnnggg time they give "take homes". A bottle. I wondered if the little one drank it.

Also comes in pill form. I didn't want to make it sound that evil because sometimes it is or was prescribed for pain. Not often though. Some addicts sell them on the street and call them "Dollies". An aka for Adolph.

Just one huge senseless and very sad mess no matter the circumstances that little toddlers could get their hands on any drug.

Sorry for being the drug and alcohol therapist on this thread.

Nah! We need one! It’s been a while since I worked in the field and needed a refresher!

I definitely need one. I'm completely naive about drugs. Thanks Filly.

Thanks for the informative post, @Filly!

You are too kind, friend. One of these days I'll make a brief post. Haha

Moody Chicago, I had said that faciciously. Mad respect for your work. My oldest and dearest friend since second grade is one though. All the letters after her name. Bless you it can be a tough job.

Unfortunately half these things I know is because of people in addiction. Oh and if I have to take the El! It's the favored mode of transportation for addicts. Heartbreaking.

Brief again! No problem LadyL.
