Details of Disappearance

Francheska ran away from her Paterson, New Jersey home on June 9, 2000, the day before her thirteenth birthday. Her twin sister, Misheila, stated they were at 17th Avenue and east 22nd Street when Francheska said she was going to the store.

When the girls' stepfather came to the store a few minutes later, he found out Francheska had never arrived there. At 1:30 p.m., Francheska called home and spoke to Misheila, saying she was with friends at the Great Falls on the Passaic River in Paterson. She asked Misheila not to tell anyone, then hung up. She has never been heard from again.

Francheska told friends she was interested in attending the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Manhattan, New York on June 11, but it's unclear whether she ever arrived there. Friends reported she was dating a 22-year-old man her family didn't know.

A few days after her disappearance, the clothes Francheska had been wearing on the day she vanished, untorn but minus the shoes, were found in a supermarket bag in the driveway outside her mother's house.

Details of Disappearance

On July 22, six weeks after her twin sister disappeared, Misheila also vanished. Authorities believe the twins left of their own accord and may be traveling together. They may be in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn or the Bronx. Their cases remain unsolved.

Wow, this bit from The Charley Project is particularly shocking:

"
t's possible twins left of their own accord and may be traveling together, possibly in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn or the Bronx. There is also speculation that they were victims of human trafficking.

Another theory is the girls' stepfather, Hipolito Miguel Corniel, was involved. A few months after Francheska and Misheila disappeared, Corniel killed a young woman. He served a seventeen-year sentence for the crime and was released in 2017. The girls' brother believes one of his sisters was pregnant with Corniel's child in 2000, but there is no evidence to support this theory."

there are so many things that could have happened in this case... it could be that the stepfather abused the two girls, that one was pregnant, human trafficking, that they agreed to escape together, somehow they returned to their country of origin, perhaps the 22-year-old man at that time took them both to who knows where they could have been sold, raped, trafficked etc...
poor little girls I hope with all my heart that they have not suffered so much..
rest in peace

Found this in a Spanish language newspaper. The translation isn’t perfect but it’s still understandable ☹️

New Jersey State police join the search in 2013

"We devote hours and hours and many resources to the search, but we came to the same conclusion as many other detectives: frustration with Mr. Hipólito," said Detective Erin Micciula of the State Police in New Jersey.

"He (Corniel), confessed but then retracted and unfortunately we don't know where to look for them to recover them," said the officer.

The brother insists that Corniel's relationship with Francheska did not look "normal" and the man always took her shopping to the stores and she returned loaded with clothes and gifts.

Martínez says that before disappearing, the other twin left a letter in which she reproached her mother for not loving her stepfather and being "unfaithful" to him, so she and her sister claimed that they were not happy with their mother.

The mother, Gloria Puello, admits that Corniel was jealous of her with a neighbor, but clarifies that she never had any relationship with the alleged lover.

"Corniel's only way to take revenge on the mother of the twins was to hurt the daughters, knowing how much the mother loved her," says the former detective.

Also some details about the murder Corniel committed just after the second twin disappeared:
