Praying they find Danica safe and sound!

Hoping they find her safe and sound. Camden itself is very seedy. Not the kind of place to be alone.

Is it possible to describe her gender in a different way, i.e. “she is a black transgender woman” rather than “a black male who identifies as female”?

IIRC, the 200 block of S. 13th Street in Philly is part of the city’s “Gayborhood” (officially, “Midtown Village”); there are a few bars and after-hours clubs in that area which are popular hangouts for sex workers soliciting clients. I don’t know whether the missing woman was involved in sex work, but—statistically—transgender women of color are very commonly the targets of homophobic/transphobic violence, and this trend especially affects those trans women of color who are sex workers. I will note that the PATCO high-speed line (similar to a subway, it runs from just east of Camden to Center City Philadelphia) has a stop at 13th and Locust, not far from the area the missing woman is described to frequent—I wonder if there are security cameras on that corner that might show her arrival or departure?

The above is MOO!

My friend lived in the Gayborhood, right above Woody’s (it was a gay bar, not sure if it’s still there). The reason she picked that section was because she knew she’d be safe. That was many years ago, when sadly things were a little different. Now that we’re seeing violence against transgender and LGBTQ more so than ever, I’m sure it’s not as safe as it once was.

And all of those PATCO lines should have surveillance - both stations and the cars.

The thanks button wasn’t enough to show my appreciation for this thoughtful and informative post. Glad to have you here!

Apparently the missing woman is estranged from her biological family, but her best friend/roommate has been keeping in contact with the police and has been posting, in various outlets, information and updates related to Danika's disappearance. If you check Danika Otero's account on FB, you will see the first post is by her bestie/roommate and that person's own FB page has a whole lot more information that seems relevant to locating her (May 29th's post is *very* informative).

The first thing that I wondered was...was she going to meet someone? And that post confirmed it. Could she have met this guy and he flipped out and done something terrible? I hope this isn't the case, but...I can't help but think.

Still looking for MSM confirmation to share, but the roommate/best friend I referred to earlier has shared on FB the happy news that Danika has returned, apparently totally unscathed!

Once MSM confirms this, I’ll post the link to their update and will also alert a mod to change the title of this thread to indicate Danika was “found safe.”
