The remains of two newborn babies were discovered inside a New Jersey recycling center.

The first of the two bodies was found around 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday at the New Brunswick facility on Industrial and Terminal Roads.

As investigators searched the facility, they discovered the second body six hours later.

Oh my God... might be twins.

As sad as this is, tbh I feel like there's little to no chance that these babies were born alive. The fact that they're listed as 'fetuses' in NamUs and how tiny they are makes me think they were premature and stillborn. Still tragic, but at least they weren't killed.

I agree. I think they were premature, born dead to someone who hid the pregnancy or otherwise wasn't getting any help. I really hope wherever the mother is, she is okay and not suffering any complications.

I can't imagine the panic, guilt, shame she might be feeling.

Three pounds would be at minimum 28 - 30 weeks gestation - well within the limits of viability. And twins each weighing 3# would be more like 32 weeks- so in my professional opinion they were likely born alive but needing immediate medical attention.

One was 3 pounds and one was 1 pound. Makes me think of TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome) - if unaware of what that is: one twin gets all the nutrition and the other is deprived. Note that it's equally as fatal for the twin getting all the blood supply, as it's getting too much and it can overload the heart. So if this was a woman who wasn't receiving medical care, this is a condition that is usually fatal for the fetuses without treatment. It also causes premature birth (even when treated).

I missed the part about the second twin being so small.

The other thing I've seen (with greatly disparate twin sizes) is when one twin's placenta lies on a fibroid. Back in my clinical practice days- we had twins #1 was 6 pounds-ish and #2 was 850 grams. And the big twin was an absolute slug and could not figure out how to suck and swallow for a couple days and the little one was a maniac who would have ordered McDonald's if we let him!

I've heard of TTTS and I agree it could be a possibility here. I just really, really hope these babies didn't suffer.
