Did the PD ask the family for a picture of Eduardo to confirm it wasn't him in the photo? And as his ex-wife, she obviously doesn't want to get involved and have the stigma, so I don't blame her for saying no, but the PD should verify...
This family has no involvement in this story. They genuinely have no idea who these people are. It’s best to leave them be.

Thanks @Grungster for confirming. Any good news on the case at all?

I would assume they asked for whatever proof they could get. I'm sure they were dumbfounded.

It's confusing. I've read that the "Eduardo" they were tracking down was actually 2 people (i.e., the actual Eduardo and the guy in the picture), one of which they've ruled out, one of which (possibly the same one) is dead. But aside from the fact that hanging yourself from such a low height works seem incredibly difficult (then again, hanging someone else from that height doesn't seem much easier), it does seem like a suicide. Identifying Eduardo/the guy in the picture is really only important for ID'ing Becca.

Yes! I totally see it! When I saw the re-con, I was racking my brain trying to think of which 80’s actress she looks like. My first thought was Rebecca Schaeffer. It’s probably just the hairstyle though.
Godfather III would've been so much better if she had made it to that last audition...

I have not seen any updates, unfortunately.
It was just discovered that the woman who thought Becca could be her grandmother, is not a match for this Jane Doe. She actually just did an interview about this on a podcast called The Butterfly Effect. There's only one season so far and it focuses specifically on Becca Jane Doe.
The host has been working with Albuquerque PD to try and find answers. As well as clear up some of the more confusing aspects/info of this case. It's very well done and recommend it for those who are interested this case. The host has also been posting updates to Reddit as well.
I honestly feel like we are close to Becca being identified.

Apparently, LE received another tip recently from a man saying he recognized this Jane Doe as someone he gave a ride to back late 80s, early 90s. He said her name was Becca/Rebecca and he dropped her off at an apartment in Reseda where she lived with an older man (father/ step-father it's assumed). Police are still verifying this tip, I believe.
This new information came from a podcast investigating Becca's case called The Butterfly Effect.

Are we sure this is a recent tip? Because I know there was one a while back that said she was livin' in Reseda.

It is, in fact, a recent tip from another person that just came forward. The first tip was from 2021 when the man in the photo spoke to LE.

While it is more or less the same info, we now have two tips from two different sources, both stating that Jane Doe went by Becca/ Rebecca and she was from Reseda.

It may not be much but hopefully it's a step closer to her being identified.

It appears it was not a recent tip and all relates to the previous phone call.

The reporting of this "tip" as a new tip and a re-enactment of the phone call on a podcast is starting to feel uncomfortable for me. Various things seem to being portrayed in an unclear fashion for entertainment value. The re-enactment of the telephone call will only add fuel to the fire of various unnecessary "suggestions" about other names associated with the case. I don't think there is anything new of true value learnt. I wondered about why Law Enforcement hadn't reported the "new" tip and quite frankly, it's because it isn't new.

I'm left with an overwhelming sadness at a feeling that Becca Doe and other people have been used so many years after her death.

After listening to the most recent episode last night, I'm kind of having these same thoughts and feelings. I feel a little mislead, to be honest. This information was framed as a new and recent "tip" when it wasn't.

My apologies for the misinformation in my posts above about the tip. I should've been a little more discerning.

I don't think it's your fault. It was very much presented as a new report. I felt uncomfortable at the negative comments about the google document. Which is a document of information pulled together that has probably helped many understand the case better and whilst it may have some need some changes, I think was a good presentation of the information people had pulled together well before many had even heard of Becca Doe. Then suggesting the photo wasn't a photo booth one seemed odd and a bit over eager to suggest everyone else had got it wrong, then it's been said both men were in the room but the interview suggests otherwise and putting the interview out is just poor.

Not only does it poor on the people involved but it will make law enforcement cautious to share information in the future in my opinion. Nothing seems to have changed and the while thing is starting to feel like a dig at the people who've done excellent research in the past. It very sad.

Not your fault. I hate it when podcasts just rephrase the same info as other podcasts without adding any insight or evidence of their own.

In fact, had I not read "Reseda" in Tom Petty's voice both times, I probably would've forgotten that it wasn't new information.

I'm not sure it's just that. It seems to be portraying old info as new to gain more downloads.

I respectfully disagree – there is new information in the podcast. It confirms that her DNA is on file and is used for comparison (contrary to what her DoeNetwork page says). Per George Martinez interview with LE, Becca would be at the lower end of or below the age range that DoeNetwork and Namus give for her, which is good to know.

I also don't think it was made public before that George Martinez is the man in the photograph. In the transcript of the police interview Martinez gives the detective the full name of the person who introduced Becca to him – and states that friends of Becca have reached out to that person because they were looking for her. I would like to know if that lead was ever followed up on, but that is not answered in the podcast unfortunately (which is the issue that I have with the podcast – I'm a journalist and would not put out a story that doesn't at least attempt to address the most crucial question), but I suppose the podcaster had her reasons for not clarifying why 4 years after the police interview that lead has not materialised.

The podcast is not perfect, but it does provide answers from LE sources to some important questions. MOO.

Yeah, AFAIK the confirmation that George Martinez is the man in the photo is new.

I agree as well. We now know exactly where the info about her name and possible residence was came from (all from George), we know she was apparently living in a group home and 'aging out'. George seemed pretty certain she was only 18-19. Also a pretty tight timeline of her travelling from panorama city to Albuquerque. Not knowing why LE hasn't gotten info from the Jack mentioned is a huge bit of missing info, but I wonder if it was a condition of being allowed to release the transcript was to keep info about Jack to a minimum. Really hope some more significant updates are coming soon.

Unfortunately it isn't two different sources. The info you saw on the web pages referring to the girl being named Becca and from Cali/Reseda is because of the same tip that the transcript just broke. The tip was from the guy in the picture. He dated her for 3 or 4 weeks. His name was also on the scale. George Martinez. His wife saw the episode on unsolved mysteries in 2021 and had him go forward.

Basically this whole time the info was added to the doe pages but they never disclosed the source of the tip. Recently the podcast exposed it just a few days ago the whole transcript it. So the info that they were updating the case on and the info that just broke is the same and from the same source we just got more details. It is NOT two different tips. They happened to find the man in the picture is the reason.

Two things of note:
#1 notice how the doe pages used to display both her and the guy now they cropped out his face in the gallery. All they show is her face not the whole picture. I noticed that subtle change. Its because they knew he had been located and was innocent and just a witness.

#2 it seems she was dealing with some serious heart break. She was only 18/19 and you can see. The picture of them is on the table and the scale with the name George Martinez was right there next to it. She was heart broken I believe. She was pawned off to George Martinez brother in law which was Eduardo Colone. She had the idea they would be together and she would have somewhere to stay but he had different ideas. He had a wife. He basically told her no and left her in that motel room. Stranded. Far from home. She was alone and abandoned and heartbroken.

George Martinez the guy in the picture says he wishes or thinks maybe he could of handled the situation differently and that hes afraid he really hurt that girl. I dont think it was any coincidence that photo was left on the table there next to a scale with his name. She was alone. Drunk. Heartbroken. Heroin in her system too who knows maybe going into withdrawl. I feel so bad for her. It looks to me she was really hurt and had a good heart and just wanted what everyone wanted. To feel wanted, to feel hope, to feel secure. Its so sad we have to identify her.
