Circumstances of Disappearance:
Coronado was last seen in Carlsbad, New Mexico on February 10, 1996. She has never been heard from again.

She was residing on San Jose Boulevard at the time of her disappearance and drove big rigs for a living. She was family-oriented and even as a truck driver constantly on the road, she would always contact her family.

According to Coronado's husband, Ernest Urquidez, they had a minor verbal scuffle that day, and she left their home. He told police that she had possibly fled to El Paso because as a truck driver, she had connections there. He left to search for her and returned with only her vehicle. He told police that he had gone to a hotel near an El Paso truck stop that she frequented and found her truck there.

Urquidez remains a person of interest in her case. He apparently sold all of her belongings shortly after her disappearance and moved to Texas.

There has been no activity on Coronado's bank account nor her Social Security since she went missing. Foul play is suspected in her case and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Question: What happened to Yolanda Coronado?

Posted: 04/23/2011 09:10:31 PM MDT

CARLSBAD A case gone cold has left a local family still distraught after one of their own went missing without a trace 15 years ago.

Yolanda Coronado was 34 years old when she was reported missing from her Carlsbad home on San Jose Boulevard in February 1996. She was family-oriented and drove big rigs for a living.

"No one has heard from her since," said detective Sgt. Chris Kohler with the Carlsbad Police Department. "There has been no movement on her (bank) account or her Social Security."

After a brief investigation, the case was tucked away until 2007, when Kohler noticed a clerical error on the case and when he went to adjust it, found himself digging into the case immediately.

"Not a lot was done until it was apparent that she didn't just walk away from her life," said Kohler. "Something was very wrong."
