In the interview, the officer asked Reid if something happened that set things off for her. Reid responded, ”I guess about my mom running away from us.”
She told the officer her mother left on Dec. 15 and she had not heard from her since. She told the officer she was depressed about her mother leaving but also said they weren’t close. According to court filings, Reid's parents divorced in 2016.
The new criminal complaint also said Reid would watch her younger siblings during the week while her father was in school. She told the officer her brother has autism. “I asked her how she felt about being at home with the kids Monday through Friday throughout the week leading up the incident and Mashenka responded saying she got more and more angry from listening (to her brother) screaming.”
