The medallion was likely a variation of this Catholic charm (found on etsy).

The sweater was probably a maroon version of this one (found on ebay there were also cardigans). Wikipedia says "Anthony David Lema was an American professional golfer who rose to fame in the mid-1960s and won a major title, the 1964 Open Championship at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. He died two years later at age 32 in an aircraft accident near Chicago." Very sad.

I was also thinking that the charm was probably a Catholic one. Now that Doe Network is back up, an interesting bit I just noticed is that the charm was made in France. So possible French or French Canadian connection.

Here's a Tony Lema ad I found from 1966 - it seems those sweaters ranged from $10-13 in the mid 60's, which would be about $115-130 in today standards. Seems to me this man may have been middle classed.

Oh my! That is a pretty expensive sweater! And I missed the part about the medallion being of French origin. Very interesting!
