Found Deceased NV - John Schultz, 60, driver for Uber and Lyft, Las Vegas, 8 Mar 2021 *endangered*

That's unsettling to know that drivers would even consider that. If the driver considered it once then perhaps again as well. I was reading an article where Lyft had thousands of complaints of abuse of passengers because Lyft apparently doesn't require in car cameras to record (I could be wrong that this is not required it should be required in my opinion for safety of both). So maybe its a possibility that John picked up an unsavory individual. Its not just passengers who can be hurt but the other way around as well. Its strange John's car was found where it was.

Kinda strikes me as more of a car dump failure than medical episode.

I'm curious what police could have found that would lead them to that conclusion. I can't think of a single smoker who would leave cigarettes behind. And I would think someone having a medical episode where they had the wherewithal to grab their wallet wouldn't grab the cell phone and the smokes.

To me the cell phone being off suggests someone didn't want LE to be able to track the movements of John that day. I assume his last ride would have been contacted by LE, but I don't know how stringent either ride share is about rider ID. I wonder if someone could have hopped into the vehicle at the drop off and forced him to drive somewhere? Robbery/carjacking gone wrong?

Remains believed to be those of missing ex-air traffic controller

Remains believed to be those of missing ex-air traffic controller

Human remains found in the desert near Indian Springs Sunday are believed to those of a Las Vegas retiree missing for more than seven months, his wife said Friday.

Barbara Schultz said authorities called her this week to let her know they believe they’ve found her missing husband, John Schultz. The 60-year-old retired air traffic controller went missing from Las Vegas in March while working a part-time job as a ride-share driver, prompting a monthslong search for him by family, police and volunteers.

“It is believed to be him,” Barbara Schultz said. “They are pretty much 99 percent sure. … We thank everybody for their prayers and their outreach and everything they’ve done and said.”

Thanks for posting. I wonder what Barbara thinks happened. Its unusual that his wallet was missing but his cigarettes were not. I also wonder if she found out what she thought was being held back by the police a the time. RIP.

So sad for his family and loved ones, but I'm glad he's been found. MOO

Noting for the location:

[...]

Wildlife surveyor Colden McClurg, 36, said he was working in a remote area roughly six miles southwest of Indian Springs, near the base of the Spring Mountains, on Sunday when he discovered remains and clothing off an unnamed two-track road. He described the site as just north of Willow Creek Road.

[...]

“They were pretty sure they thought this is who it was because some of the clothing matched the description of the missing person,” McClurg said.

[...]

Metro spokesman Aden OcampoGomez in an email confirmed the discovery of remains near “Wheeler Peak and Willow Creek roads” outside of Indian Springs. He declined to say whether police believe the remains are Schultz. The Clark County coroner’s office is investigating.

I was just looking John's family's Facebook posts. So his wallet and ID was found with him. But at the same time the family has unresolved questions. Very sad. Once the autopsy is done I wonder if the family will have more questions than answers? Hopefully it answers something for the family. From the Google map you posted it looks like the area he was found in is far from any main road.

Saw his daughter's Facebook post. She said they are trying to move forward with life, but wish they had more answers. Its under the heading "Last Update" , yesterdays date Jan.10, 2022. She said they may never have the answers they are looking for. So sad. I just one daughter's post, perhaps in the coming days other family members will post their thoughts. I will look.

No, haven't seen any. Sadly as the family has said there are so many questions no answers and possibly never have them.

Update: Remains found in a desert area near Indian Springs in October of 2021 have been identified as 60-year-old John Schultz. Dateline spoke with the Clark County Coroner’s Office in September of 2022, who confirmed these details. A representative told Dateline that both the “cause of death and manner of death are undetermined.” When asked if this case is still open, the representative said that the Coroner’s office has closed the case and any further investigation would be coming from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. The Metro PD has not confirmed whether or not they are still investigating at this time.

I haven't been to the families Facebook pages in a while, but I wonder what they think happened? RIP John.
