NV NV - Krista Lee Elliot Stabbed to Death at Frontier Hotel - Las Vegas

Would anyone be interested in helping to solve my sisters cold case? She was murdered in Las Vegas 40 yrs ago. She was murdered 13 days after her 21st birthday (May 20 1961-DOB) Her case is on Las Vegas PD cold case files. Her name is Krista Lee Elliott. She was brutally murdered in the Fromtier Hotel. She was stabbed to death multiple times. She had numerous defensive wounds on her arms and hands from grabbing the knife as she was being stabbed. At that time there was no DNA to help solve the case. The police did find unknown blood and hair from her killer. I have seen the police files (not pictures) approx 12 yrs ago. The police made some effort to find her murdered but her case went cold. The loss of Krista especially in such a brutal manner has forever scared me and my family. If anyone could help us find who killed her our family would be forever grateful

I'd love to help too. I'm new at this but I will do my absolute best! I familiarized myself with The Frontier back then via videos, maps and pictures. I also looked to see if there were any serial killers in Vegas at that time. Johnny Blake Peterson seems to have been around. Do you have any more details or any further info that I can look into for you?

Location: Frontier Hotel
Date: June 2, 1982

Synopsis:
On 6-2-1982 a maid at the Frontier Hotel entered room # 2054 for routine cleaning. The maid discovered the victim lying in the bed with a large amount of blood on the bed and sheets. The room was registered to a man who gave a false name and address, using cash. The victim had numerous stab wounds.

Like I said I'm newish to Websleuths, but I've been looking for patterns and active serial killers in the Vegas area during 1982. Not too much there...but in checking out the link below (it's the Vegas cold case page that has Krista's info on it) I noticed another victim on the same page as Krista. This other woman was also murdered in a hotel room, stabbed multiple times in Vegas in December of the same year. Her name was Cynthia Jo Dane. She was 24, and was murdered at a hotel called Castaway. I went and looked at an old map of the Strip during '82 and the Castaway was on the same side of the street with only one place between them, as the Frontier.
What if this guy's mo was hotel rooms and what if he did this more than once? Mind you, I'm going on only the details from the Cold Case page because that is all I have been able to find in web searches about Krista and Cynthia's cases. I can't find anything! So I don't know why Krista was there, if she was a resident of Vegas at the time? Did she work close by?

Arrest and court records etc. I have been searching and I cannot see to find out how to go about doing this. None of us are actually in Vegas so we need to be able to do this via online or by phone.

My question is How do I do this? This is the first time I'm doing this and being at a standstill is making us crazy.
Any advise or help would be so amazing!

Normally LVMPD will only release criminal history to the party themselves or someone with a notarized letter. Being that the subject is deceased you may want to check with their records section to see if this information can be obtained since you are family. You could also try with the central repository in Carson City. That would give you access to any records in Nevada in the event she had a history with a neighboring jurisdiction like North Las Vegas or Henderson.

Hi Nikki,

I am the niece of Cynthia Jo Dane, who was also brutally murdered the same year in Vegas, as your sister. I’ve just spoken with a detective from the LVMPD who informed me they have ran new DNA testing 3 times on my aunts case but it’s too deteriorated to find a suspect unfortunately. It is good to know they are still looking into these cases as technology advances. I sent the detective your information from this forum because I noticed someone mentioned the similarities in the 2 unsolved cases. I don’t know that anything will come of it since the suspect is unknown in both but it’s worth a shot. So sorry about your sister. I hope somehow justice is served to the murderer/s who took their lives way too soon!
