Lander County Jane Doe
DISCOVERY:
At 11:45am on February 25, 1990, hikers discovered partial skeletal remains scattered across the area of Hilltop Road on Shoshone Mountain in rural Lander County, Nevada. Among the bones found include a fragmented skull and mandible, ankle bones, and vertebrae. The body’s torso was never recovered.

The area where the remains were found had once been used for mining.

AUTOPSY:
An autopsy conducted on the remains estimated the deceased had been dead between six and 12 months. However, later examination by the LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) Laboratory determined they could have been dead for up to two years prior to being found.

The cause of death was determined to be homicide, but the medical examiner wasn’t able to conclude how the individual had been murdered. The skull showed signs of blunt force trauma to the head, and there was evidence of dismemberment. However, it could not be determined if these injuries had occurred ante- or post-mortem.

DETAILS:
While initially believed to be a male, the deceased was later concluded to be a Native American female between the ages of 25 and 40. She likely stood between 5’2″ and 5’8″ and had long, dark hair. Due to the state of the remains, her weight and eye colour could not be determined.

A healed injury was noted on her right femur, which may have affected the way she walked.

Found with the remains was a hand-crafted sterling silver ring with triangular-shaped coral and turquoise stones in an alternating pattern, size 7.5-to-8.

RULE OUTS:
1) Tina Marie Finley, who went missing from Benewah County, Idaho on March 7, 1988.

CASE CONTACT INFORMATION:
Jane Doe’s dentals and DNA are available for comparison.

Those with information regarding the case are asked to contact the Lander County Sheriff’s Office at 775-635-1100 ex. 1421 or the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office at 775-785-6114. Could it possibly be this woman? She had went missing earlier in 1986 but the recreation has a lot of similarities in face and hair is definitely black, not to mention Montana is about a little bit away from Nevada- could of possibly been an abduction or a hitchhike abduction since hitchhiking was big in 80's. A reported sighting was issued but never followed up on which means she most likely was abducted or had gotten into the car with her supposed killer. Just my opinion though *Blush*

@Sablini - I understand why you are considering Ms. Johnson. I do see some similarity with the recreation and Ms. Johnson's photo provided. Like you, I would wonder a little about the distance, particularly given this article I ran across on Ms. Johnson's disappearance; the content of which would lead me to believe she is most likely much closer to Livingston. I'm really glad you posted the possible match, I always appreciate an opportunity to see what others are considering and why, as well as potentially learn more about the missing. Here's the link to the article I reference:

She looks alot like Daisy Mae Heath to me.

Daisy Mae Heath - NamUs #MP52320
D.L.C: August 30, 1987
Missing From: White Swan, Washington
Missing Age: 29 years
Height: 5'3"-5'4"
Weight: 140lbs
Hair: Black, straight and long (extended to middle of the back)
Eyes: Brown
Scars/marks: Scar on left shoulder from being struck by a vehicle as a child
Circumstances: Daisy was staying with family in the White Swan area of the Yakama Indian Reservation at the time of her disappearance. Her keys and backpack were later found in the closed area of the reservation, known as Soda Springs, which is a remote part of the reservation. Daisy was last seen around the end of August, and was reported missing on 10/29/1987.

She has connections to the Warm Springs Reservation in central Oregon. Her grandmother passed away in 1986, which hit her hard. She had also given birth but lost the child in 1986 and may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of her disappearance.

She previously had been hit by a car, which could explain the femur trauma if this is her.

I can find no mention of her suffering from anything like Osteomyelitis though.

More information on her disappearance can be found here

I have no idea how or why in the world she ended up in Nevada, but anything is possible I suppose.

Submitted Daisy as a possible match to the Ladner Co. Sheriff's office, Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office, and LSU FACES lab via email.

Mary Thatcher? Not too confident on this one. Height and hair color are slightly off
The height on Mary's namus is wrong (listed as 5'1 but she's actually 5'10) so her stats look a bit better comparatively. It'd say it would be worth submitting if you already haven't. I was going to reach out to the FB group Mary's family made to see if she had any history of Osteomyelitis or trauma to the right leg but I'm unsure if anyone is moderating it still.

Daisy has been identified as another Doe found in Washington so back to the drawing board. Mary Thatcher is looking like the next possible strongest match.

The leads from Othram combined with detectives' pursuit of a follow-up investigation eventually revealed that the female homicide victim found more than three decades ago was in fact 19-year-old Judy Manzaneras of Salt Lake City. Manzaneras had been reported missing by her family but was never connected to this case.
