Weeks after the 21-year-old went missing from Henderson in 2005, a woman’s legs were found in a grassy field off of a highway near Springfield, Ill.


Three years passed before authorities found a match for DNA evidence from the legs.

“It does bring them relief,” said Janice Grieshaber, a family friend and spokeswoman.

“They have some ability to have a service and to feel like they’re bringing Lindsay home.”

Lindsay Harris disappeared on May 4, 2005. Her rental car was abandoned in the desert on the southern end of the valley, and her credit cards were unused.

After her disappearance, Martha Harris and her husband, Robert, who live in the small town of Skaneateles, N.Y., found out about their daughter’s other life as an escort working on the Strip.

Harris disappeared from Henderson in 2005. Her legs were found in Nevada, but her body was later found in Springfield, Illinois — similar to the two-location discovery of Karen Vergata on Long Island. Vergata had been a Jane Doe, but she was recently identified. Her murder has not, so far, been connected with Heuermann.

I live in Springfield. I recall when remains were found not far from town on I-55 near the Divernon exit ('bout 20 miles from town proper). It was shocking.

Lindsay Marie Harris, a 21-year-old woman who disappeared from a Las Vegas suburb in May 2005. Her legs were discovered along the interstate south of Springfield 2 1/2 weeks later.
Severed legs found 3 years ago finally identified

Harris was last seen alive on May 4, 2005, on a bank camera in Henderson, Nevada.

About two weeks later, on May 21, two severed legs were found on Interstate 55 near Divernon, Illinois.

Between March 2003 and April 2006, four known Las Vegas prostitutes -- Harris, Misty Saens, Jodi Brewer and Jessica Louise Foster -- disappeared under similarly suspicious circumstances.

Three of the women were dismembered and their remains dumped off of remote stretches of highway. Two of them were found near industrial areas, and the body of the fourth woman, Jessie Foster, has never been found.

There is a call logged in RH's records on the superseding bail application to a location in Illinois that is 60 miles north of Springfield IL and about 80 miles north of Divernon IL, where part of Lindsay's remains were recovered. There is a shooting range (Divernon Sportsman's Club) just on the outskirts of Divernon.

Her remains were off I-55. If one were driving to Massapequa from Divernon (or vice versa), one would take I-55.

Was anyone else aware that Lindsay Harris was from upstate New York? I'm seeing on multiple sources that she was raised in Skaneateles NY and graduated from Skaneateles High School. Skaneateles is in Onandaga County and west of Syracuse. I see on one site it's considered the "Jewel of the Fiver Finger region." It's right on a lake and has its own Jones Beach on that lake. There are multiple gun clubs in the region and it's noted for Canada goose hunting. Waterfowl hunt running September through January. Her obituary says she was born in Long Island and baptized in Patchogue. The obituary notes her family lived in Patchogue until they moved to Skaneateles in 1986.

"My friend and I were riding four wheelers and we ran into, we stumbled up upon a severed leg," said Casey Becker found legs in 2005. "We weren't sure first what it was but sure enough we were able to confirm it was a leg and we called the police and rode out of there as fast as we could."
