Link to the LVMPD cold cases site with info on the Yolanda Brown murder: 1990 - 1999
Yolanda Brown was a 23-year-old employee of the Las Vegas Hilton who ended her shift at 3:00 a.m. on October 9, 1996. But Yolanda never made it home. Worried relatives contacted the police to report her missing about 9:30 a.m.
Later in the afternoon on October 9th, a UPS driver discovered Yolanda's body along State Route 159 near mile marker 15 by the Red Rock National Recreation Area. Her body was found not far from the road and she had died from manual strangulation. Her purse was found about a half-mile from her body. Yolanda's vehicle, a white 1995 Toyota Tercel was missing. News reports indicate police questioned several people regarding Yolanda's disappearance and murder. Police told reporters they did not believe robbery or sexual assault was a motive.
We reviewed Family Court records and found a custody case Yolanda had filed against the father of her child, Alexander D. Green. At a hearing held on December 31, 1996, Judge Gaston noted Green was considered a prime suspect in Yolanda's murder. The judge further noted on the record that Green did not appear to have any reaction to learning of the death of Yolanda, and Green had prior arrests for pointing a firearm at someone and resisting arrest.
No arrest has ever been made in Yolanda's murder.
