September 1, 1881 in New York City an unknown boy-when trying to mount the steps of a Hudson River Railroad train at 11th Avenue near 59th street -when he was pulled off by another boy and fell under the train wheels. According to children at 11th Avenue and 44th street victim had no parents. All that could be recognized was that "John Doe" wore a glazed cap and had golden curls. Basis for song: "No Mother, No Father, No Home". See Song Cover at "view this item" at http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?mussm:1:./temp/~ammem_eIAT::
