I was so happy he didn't get bail. I feel like things are finally leaning towards justice.

Hmmmmm, a pardon -- Well, Trump says he & Jeffy had a falling out a number of years ago, so it appears Trump is trying to distance himself from this sordid mess. And, seems to me, to pardon someone with Epstein's background would be very foolish, but that's my opinion. No telling what T. might do -- Epstein is (at this time anyway) still a rich man, just T's type, IMO, so he may not want to put too much distance between them, regardless of what he has said. A toss-up, but a pardon would be a negative thing for T., IMO. Dunno.

Couple of thoughts.

One, if Epstein accepts the pardon, he can't invoke the Fifth Amendment and is compelled to testify about his knowledge of related crimes, as I understand it. I welcome any lawyers to weigh in on this.

Second, and this I'm positive about, a presidential pardon would apply only to federal crimes. And it appears that Epstein has broken bazillions of state crimes.

So I'm not sure how a pardon helps him. Hopefully he's going down one way or another.

I think he got money by hinting blackmail and also the fact that he could get his buddies what they want.- never ending young girls.

I wonder how much was blackmail and how much was payment. As in "to get into" JE Island you needed to invest X dollars in his "hedge fund." The blackmail may have been something as simple as -- "no one is going is to talk about our activities, because we would all get in trouble."

I have seen a very wealthy American who used to come where I live in a Third World nation have young girls,

No one said anything because he spent a lot of money. That’s how it works.

The rich get away with so much.

The perv no longer comes here because he is very ill .

2011 Law and Order SVU episode clearly based on Epstein according to a Vanity Fair article.
When Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Tackled Jeffrey Epstein

Here is the IMDb plot summary:

SVU investigates whether a wealthy and powerful defense contractor forced an underage French girl to give him an inappropriate massage, and whether he used his ex-girlfriend to arrange the encounter.

When it is discovered that a teenage girl is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to sexual abuse, all leads point to billionaire Jordan Hayes. As Detectives Benson and Stabler continue to investigate, Kress involves his lawyer, Dwight Stanitch, who throws the whole case awry.

Thanks for the review! I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. SVU is such a good show. “Ripped from the headlines” or whatever they say.

All the deal the Pres is getting for his attitude/behavior towards women he is putting the pressure on people like this guy. Him, Cosby and R Kelly plus the massage parlor stuff. He may
seem like slime but his admin is doing more to go after these guys than the previous couple of ones

This article is about a high level PR guy named Hay with whom Epstein consulted about rehabbing his image during the past three years, as recently as three weeks ago (they never signed a contract. Hay decided not to work for Epstein). Some (bizarre) suggestions Hay made:

Hay says he outlined an aggressive strategy to launder Epstein’s soiled reputation, including entering institutional rehab for sex addition; receiving spiritual counseling from a rabbi; and signing Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates’ Giving Pledge to donate the bulk of his wealth to good causes, which would involve not only liquidating his estate once he died, but also donating up to $50 million a year to charities relevant to his crimes while he was alive.

Audaciously, Hay even offered to arrange an audience for Epstein with Pope Francis. The idea was for a coup-de-publicité where Epstein would confess his sins and receive forgiveness from the highest earthly authority. (Whether he could deliver the Pope is another question entirely.)

Hay also encouraged Epstein to discuss this penance with the media: An exclusive interview with T&C perhaps, or maybe the New York Times. (This idea had not yet been pitched to either publication when Epstein was arrested last week on sex trafficking charges.)

I just watched this episode after reading your post. Wow!

My husband and I just watched “Flight” (Law and Order SVU Season 12, episode 15) on Amazon Prime. Wow is right! Amazingly close to Epstein’s depravity, arrogance and corruption. It even has the ex-girlfriend/pimp. Well worth watching.

I remember that episode. It's disturbing what people can get away with if they have enough money and the right connections.

rehabbing his image
Problem is, anybody with a brain knows there is no "rehabbing" for this sickness. No treatment "cures" this, no donation will soften the intense disgust, no photo op with the Pope will remove the horrific images/actions JE has given the world. Sorry Epstein, you are evil. Your mask is off. Everybody knows who you are. Only thing we want is justice and names.

That’s true, there is no “rehabbing” for his sickness/evil, but he managed to get right back in with the rich and famous after returning from Florida by setting himself up as a science benefactor. They accepted him partly because of the sweet deal Acosta gave him which minimized what he had done. And he was discussing with Hay further image rehabbing efforts in the three years before his arrest. Personally, I don’t think Epstein ever would have accepted Hay’s mea culpa ideas because it would have meant admitting to what he had done and continued to do. Hay was naive to even suggest them. But I expect some Epstein peripheral associates would have considered him a “changed man” if he had donated enough money to worthy causes...because that’s what they wanted to believe and they didn’t really care to contemplate the damage he has done to young girls.

FINALLY, with this arrest, everyone knows (or has to admit to themselves at last) what he has done and who he really is. They are scrambling like rats leaving a sinking ship to distance themselves from him. It will be a real eye-opener to see the list of these people who participated in sexually abusing little girls.

Meet the woman who ties Jeffrey Epstein to Trump and the Clintons
This article details how Maxwell introduced Epstein to Clinton/Trump.

Does anyone know how Epstein hooked up with Maxwell?

I think it was possibly more a case of Maxwell hooking up with Epstein for the social advantages after her father’s death. But so far, I haven’t found out exactly how they met

Shortly after Ghislaine Maxwell arrived in New York from England in the early 1990s, she was looking for a new start. She had just lost her father, a British media mogul, along with much of her family fortune and her social standing.

Soon she was on the rise with the help of her new boyfriend, Jeffrey Epstein, a rich financier. It was the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship. With Mr. Epstein, Ms. Maxwell was able to resurrect the lifestyle she coveted.

The ‘Lady of the House’ Who Was Long Entangled With Jeffrey Epstein

Similar info with a few more details:
Who is Jeffrey Epstein's alleged 'madam' Ghislaine Maxwell?

And much more here:
Before her father’s death, Maxwell had already started building her credentials as a British socialite and philanthropist; she founded the Kit-Cat Club, a social organization for working women, and also served as director for a football club her father owned. Following her father’s passing, however, she moved to the United States, eager to escape the scrutiny of the U.K. tabloids. While she started out working in real estate and living on the (relatively) modest trust fund sum of $100,000 a year, Maxwell quickly rebounded from her father’s passing and subsequent disgrace, according to a 2000 New York Post profile, relying on the Maxwell family’s powerful network of famous friends to regain her position in the social world.

According to the 2000 New York Post profile of Maxwell, Epstein and Maxwell began dating in the late 1990s; the piece not-so-subtly implies that Maxwell largely viewed Epstein, who at that point had become extremely wealthy from his investment firm J. Epstein & Co., as a strategic launch pad for her career as a New York City philanthropist and socialite.

This is a scathing article by a writer who knew and ditched both Epstein and Maxwell because Epstein propositioned his wife and Maxwell propositioned him. (Warning: the f-word is used twice in this context.)

It includes lots of information about how Epstein was able to remain in NYC society after his “work release.”

Why was Epstein so easily rehabilitated? He was smart. Attractive. Rich. And that is a potent combination. As David Patrick Columbia, editor of New York Social Diary, explained it for the Times: “A jail sentence doesn't matter anymore. The only thing that gets you shunned in New York society is poverty.”

So much more at the link:
