I would like to warn you, while I haven't looked at it, the post-mortem photo is VERY graphic, to what I heard. I haven't looked on his NamUs but I wonder if there is a better quality hospital photograph on the NamUs.

TBH it depends on what you consider to be very graphic. It's not that bad IMHO, I've seen worse PM photos.
This case is so sad and solvable. Is nobody looking for him?

I agree, it's not terribly graphic but not as "useful" as the live photo. It seems similar yet not as sharp.

The position of his mouth looks like maybe he'd had a stroke in the past. The other thing I think of is tardive dyskinesia, which can happen when someone is on certain medications (usually antipsychotics) for an extended period of time. I'll never forget going on rounds with my dad in the nursing home when I was a kid and being scared of the woman with a very severe case whose mouth was in constant motion but would never actually close. Later when I became a psych nurse I understood and was very careful to monitor patients for signs of TD.

One day this man didn't come home. Ever. What happened? It's heartbreaking. I wonder if he was in a shady group home (or had a shady relative) that continued to get his social security checks for awhile after he disappeared. This guy just totally tugs at my heartstrings for some reason. He looks so vulnerable and was so tiny.

you are correct, there should be a warning with that photo.

Did he have any personal belongings with him? I guess the hospital took them in because they thought someone will quickly claim him. Which never happened.
Imho he does not have to be "white", either, he could as well be Hispanic or Native.

He got hit by a car before 6 a.m. That is fairly early but really does not mean the man was homeless or in some shelter/group home, some elderly just cannot sleep properly and tend to be out and about very early.

Good you made a thread for this poor man. Thanks for the warning in the header, but I don't think the PM picture is overly graphic, at least no problem for me. Also our fellow members who are trying to solve the UID cases, know what they can expect. Mostly PM pictures come with it as not all cases have a reconstruction we can use.

I wonder if this was a hit and run or if there were witnesses (the person who hit him?) to the accident, who could add something about how he walked/was acting for instance. I suspect not. @Susikatze I agree with you...I wouldn't immediately exclude a Native or a Hispanic/Latino (or a mix) man.

I noticed that in a lot of cases where people are brought to and died in a hospital there is no clothing description. Don't they keep their clothes and belongings to hand them to next of kin or give them to LE when unidentified/not claimed? Does somebody know what the protocol is on this.

Does someone has access to the rule outs in Namus?

Late to the table, but I searched NamUs and I'm not finding him there.
Could he have been identified?

Could it be Rene Olivera missing from Manhattan in October 1999. He was listed as 5’4 but has a resemblance
