The canoe was later spotted out on the lake unoccupied, and was eventually recovered on shore in Jefferson County NY three days later. There has been no confirmed contact with Devinney since.

That's sad. He must have fallen in and drowned or died of hypothermia. Great Lake Ontario is a deep one. It's not surprising that he was never found.
