NEW ROCHELLE (CBSNewYork) – A prominent local dentist remains behind bars charged with attempted murder.

Police say a love triangle drove a doctor to stab a romantic rival. The immediate aftermath was captured on surveillance video.
Dr. Alika Crew purchased a New Rochelle split-level for $800,000 18 months ago. In recent week, something happened behind its bright blue door. It led to a woman with a deep stab wound to her neck, and Dr. Crew charged with attempted murder.

Her neighbor spoke off camera.

“Alika was a really sweet person. She seemed kind and nice and spoke to everyone, and we’re just shocked and just praying for her,” the neighbor said.

New Rochelle police say that on Tuesday morning Crew hid in a Jeep owned by a romantic rival involved with Crew’s ex-fiance. He’s identified as 35-year-old Kurtz Howell.

The victim had spent the night at Crew’s home. She drove away, and had only traveled a block when Crew allegedly attacked, left the scene, and then returned, pretending to be a good Samaritan.

Surveillance video captures the tense aftermath, with passersby shouting “She’s a doctor!”

And the victim saying “No you’re not, get away from me!”

The video shows the confusion – and perhaps some COVID-19anxiety – as bystanders keep their distance.

Dr. Crew, 41, is affiliated with a practice in Jackson Heights, Queens, and also Stein Dental in Stamford. A worker there told CBS2’s Tony Aiello they held Dr. Crew in very high regard and are shocked.

Dr. Crew comes from a family of high-achievers, Aiello reported. Her mother is a retired school principal. Her father is a renowned historian with the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Her younger brother is also a dentist.

Police are still piecing together the events leading up to the attack.

We’ve learned they believe Dr. Crew had duct tape and rubber gloves as she allegedly hid in the victim’s vehicle before the attack.

The district attorney asked for no bail. A judge set it at $150,000.

The county jail website says Dr. Crew remains in custody.

The victim suffered two serious cuts from a razor blade during the attack, just missing an artery in her neck. Her injuries are so serious they required surgery.

New Details Emerge About Dentist Accused Of Trying To Kill Her Romantic Rival In New Rochelle

Connecticut Dentist Accused Of Stabbing Ex-Fiance's Girlfriend, Pretending To Be Helpful Bystander When Police Arrived

The victim spent the night at the attacker's house?

From the second link above:

“Investigators believe Alika Crew, a Connecticut dentist, hid in the car of her former fiancé’s new girlfriend around 7 a.m., then attacked the 30-year-old as she drove away from the home that Crew still shares with her ex.”

Sounds like her ex still lives in the house, and his new girlfriend spent the night maybe?

The way I understood it from the article was that AC and her ex fiancé still lived in the same house and the “new” gf spent the night with him. I have not read why he and AC still lived together. Perhaps he was renting a bedroom or basement level even after the engagement ended. Jmo

This story is so confusing. Crews and Howell (ex) still live in $800k house (side note: I always laugh when the news reports the value of a house when it’s completely irrelevant). Howell has his new gf stay the night? (Weird). Crews hid in new gf’s car to attack her in morning.
Then Crews pretended to be a helpful Samaritan so people wouldn’t call police?

Is that what happened?

Plus Crew had duct tape and gloves in the car.

Also, according to the neighbor (on video) who called 911, someone had already called it in as a dog bite(?).

Very strange.

Ya the dog bite is weird. Did Crews yell out to someone saying She’s ok, she was bit by a dog?

I wonder if she planned on killing her. And failed, thankfully.

She had a great career, comes from a respected family, she’s GORGEOUS. Now her life as she knows it is over. Assume she will lose her dental license and won’t have a job after prison (she better go to prison!). All over a man.

Yes, that’s what I understood from the articles. The articles don’t state how long ago or reason Crews and ex broke up. Maybe after the breakup Crews suggested or offered to rent him a bedroom/ space in the house because she couldn’t let go. Very strange and sad case... all over a man. Jmo

Wow, 1 year! That seems low. It was premeditated. I wonder if she can still work as an Orthodontist.

That's insane. One year!

I guess folks with history of domestic violence can feel fairly safe going around knifing people now.

True, One year seems low. She probably took a plea deal to plead guilty to felony assault rather than attempted murder. IMO
I’m not sure why her potentially being a victim of DV is a reason to show her leniency. It’s not like the victim was abusing her and she fought back.
