NYPD Detective Kevin Spellman was blind drunk when he slammed a car into a Bronx grandmother and killed her, a law enforcement source said Monday.
The off-duty detective had at least 2-1/2 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he mowed down 67-year-old Drane Nikac, the source said.

This is just sickening. He is an officer of the law who literally plowed into a grandmother who was walking collecting cans since he was driving drunk.

He needs to do some hard time.
He is a detective and should have known better, there is no excuse. This is the second NYC drunk driving and hitting someone cop this month!

A retired New York police detective who once tracked down dangerous fugitives was himself sent to prison on Friday for killing a 66-year-old woman in 2009 while driving drunk in the Bronx.

The former detective, Kevin C. Spellman, was sentenced to three to nine years in prison...

Mr. Spellman, 45, was convicted of second-degree manslaughter in December after hitting Ms. Nikac, an immigrant from Montenegro, as she crossed a street in the early morning on Oct. 30, 2009.
