An unidentified man’s body was found floating in the East River, wrapped in a blanket and shoved inside garbage bags fastened with rope and tape, cops said Tuesday.

The NYPD’s Harbor Unit was notified of the apparent remains under the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge between Randall’s Island and Astoria, Queens, around 11:15 a.m. Monday, police said.

They discovered the body of a man who was “wrapped in a tan blanket with black garbage bags, rope and duct tape,” police said.

The body was taken to a nearby ferry dock. The medical examiner will determine a cause of death and the person’s identity, cops said.

Police are investigating.

He was identified in April as Sergio Alvarez, 48, of the Bronx. RIP Sergio.

A Bronx man whose body was found floating in the East River wrapped in a garbage bag was the victim of a homicide and had been beaten and strangled, authorities said Thursday.

Sergio Alvarez, 48, was found dead floating in the East River near the Robert F. Kennedy Triborough Bridge about 11:15 a.m. Jan. 11, cops said.

NYPD harbor unit officers recovered the body and took it to the Astoria Ferry Terminal, where they discovered Alvarez had been wrapped in a duct-taped blanket and stuffed into a garbage bag.

Alvarez had massive injuries to his body, sources said.

An autopsy later revealed that Alvarez died of blunt force trauma and ligature strangulation, a spokeswoman for the city Medical Examiner said.

Alvarez’s death was declared a homicide earlier this week.

No arrests have been made.
