Police on Tuesday identified a woman whose body was found in a burnt suitcase nearly two years ago in a Brooklyn home that had been on fire.

Police ruled that the death of Erica McDaniel, 30, was a homicide and were asking for assistance Tuesday in finding out information about the incident...

A fire had broken out at the home on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, police said.

The badly decomposed body of Erica McDaniel, 30, was discovered inside 174 Hull St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant on March 23, 2013, shortly after the property was sold, cops said...

At one time, McDaniel lived on Bedford Ave. near Greene Ave., but she also spent time in her native Kansas. McDaniel was arrested in the city in 2011, her last known contact with the NYPD, police said.

Brooklyn detectives ruled her death a homicide and are tracing the troubled past and associations of the young woman, who was from Kansas and who was 30 at the time of her death.

McDaniel’s family was in the military and she moved around the country, having lived in Florida, Alaska, as well as Kansas, said police.

Records show that McDaniel, who spent time in a Kansas prison for battery, had a number of associates or possible relatives on Long Island.

I just came across this case and there doesn't seem to be any information after the identification of her remains. I worry that police are not putting many resources into finding Erica's killer because of her past run-ins with the law.
