Retired Catholic priest John Johnston was sentenced yesterday to five years’ probation and ordered to pay $50,000 to a Long Island church – restitution for cash he stole from the collection plate.

The sentencing before Nassau Supreme Court Justice Donald Belfi mirrored one in Queens Wednesday when Supreme Court Justice Douglas Wong also handed down five years’ probation. The sentences will run concurrently.
