Human remains found Monday at Durand Lake in Irondequoit

For hours Monday afternoon and into the early evening, police searched the water and woods around a northern portion of Durand Lake where human remains were reportedly found.

The lake is just over a mile from the Irondequoit home where 37-year-old Lisa Shuler was found dismembered on Tuesday. Police have said a cause of death has not been determined in the case.

Police have been looking for Seth Larson, her 40-year-old boyfriend, whom they describe as a "person of interest."

Police did not link the two cases on Sunday, and did not describe the condition of the remains.

Scuba divers spent Tuesday wading through murky waters, examining a pond for evidence after human remains were discovered there the day before.

The identity of the remains found in Durand Eastman Park Monday is still unknown.

The deceased person's gender, as well as the length of time the remains have been there and whether their death was the result of foul play, are still being investigated, Irondequoit Police Chief Alan Laird said Tuesday.

Lisa Shuler remains found in Durand Lake in Rochester NY


The human remains discovered Monday in Durand Lake have been positively identified as Lisa Shuler, who was found dead a week earlier at her Culver Road home, Irondequoit police announced Wednesday.


Police Chief Alan Laird revealed last week that Shuler's body was discovered in a dismembered state at her home in the 4300 block of Culver Road on May 25. Authorities were alerted to the presence of human remains in the northwest corner of Durand Lake in Durand Eastman Park in the city of Rochester Monday.
