Nearly half a century after his death, questions still surround the killing of James “Chick” Hewson, a decorated athlete, Olympian and World War II veteran.

''BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nearly half a century after his death, questions still surround the killing of James “Chick” Hewson, a decorated rower, Olympian, and World War II veteran whose legacy continues to inspire those who knew him.
Hewson was 60 years old when he was killed while working a night shift as a bridge tender at the Ferry Street Bridge in Buffalo. The case remains unsolved, but for those who knew him best, Hewson is remembered not for his tragic death — but for the remarkable life he led.''

''Hewson earned 49 gold medals at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and 26 U.S. national titles, often beating competitors half his age.''
''Beyond his athletic achievements, Hewson was also a decorated veteran. As a member of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, he took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, helping capture Sainte-Mère-Église — the first town liberated in France.''

It doesn't look like there's any more effort to solve the murder case. There's hardly anything on Google.

What a shame. I am guessing he did not leave a family.
