MASSENA — Two Massena residents, including a registered sex offender, were accused of using the Internet to try to solicit sex from underage girls.

James A. Anagnos, 38, of 18 Parker Ave.reportedly communicated online with undercover officers (he) thought were girls, ages 13 and 14, and tried to make arrangements to meet them for sex. Troopers declined to release further information.

Anagnos, classified a Level 3 sex offender, was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2000 and was sentenced to two to four years in state prison, state records show. He also had been sentenced to 11/2 to 3 years in prison for a rape conviction from Clinton County. He was charged last month by Massena village police with a felony count of failure to register as a sex offender.
