5-year-old boy home alone dies in Queens fire; brother is charged

NEW YORK - A 5-year-old boy left alone by his 24-year-old brother was killed Thursday morning when a two-alarm fire engulfed the family's apartment and two floors of a Corona apartment building.

Police arrested the older brother, Diego Guallpa, charging him with endangering the welfare of a child. He was supposed to baby-sit the boy, Jason, but instead, police sources said, had gone out to do his taxes.

Firefighters found Jason in his family's first-floor apartment, wedged between a wall and TV, under debris, New York Fire Department officials said.

I cannot imagine why a 24yo would do that?! WTH?! Like his taxes were more important than the child?! He knew better than to leave that child alone.
