A 16-year-old girl on scholarship at an elite Manhattan prep school jetted out of her family's Bronx home on Saturday afternoon and now her mother fears she may be in danger.

"She just abruptly walked doubt the door on Saturday – didn't say anything, just walked out," Kimerly Valera, Jezlieanne Colon's mother, told Fox News Digital on Monday. "I haven't heard from her since."

She attended most of her freshman year remotely from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, but started having problems at school when she began her sophomore year in-person last fall, her mother said.

“My daughter’s been an over-achiever since childhood,” the missing girl’s mother, Kimberly Varela, told PIX11 News Sunday about the girl’s recent studies at Nightingale Bamford School on Manhattan’s East Side. “This has never happened before.”

The mother added that her daughter’s cell phone last pinged by the No. 6 train station in the Castle Hill area of the Bronx, where the family lives. Nightingale Bamford School is located at 20 East 92nd Street in Manhattan.

The mother said part of her daughter’s problems stemmed from being the “only dark-skinned girl in school,” Varela said.

“Everyone is Caucasian; she always told me she didn’t fit in,” the mother said.

My heart breaks for her. Jezlieanne, please don't seek a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You're brilliant and your parents seem to adore you. Come home and let them find a solution where you're happy and getting a great education.

For nothing to do with sleuthing or anything like that - I just happened to stumble on an article from last year that mentioned she was missing and out of curiosity decided to find out what happened to her.

I can't find any reference to her at all on any news or social media source since she initially went missing.

I'm hoping this was a fantastic sign - a teen who had a brief difficult period & returned home and there was nothing else to report.

But i'm wondering if anyone heard anything official.

this a brief summary: Missing 16-year-old girl from elite Manhattan prep school disappeared from home

I'm guessing b/c of the silence after a couple of days she was safe & returned home and it just dropped off the radar to give the family peace.

like i said, i stumbled on another article about her missing for completely different reasons - and out of curiosity did generic searching to see what came of the initial 'missing person' alarm and it dropped off quickly.

so if no one knows of any other updates - i'll assume she's in a better place, in nothing else b/c there haven't been other 'missing person' reports re Jezlianne.

Better place?
Meaning that the challenges she was facing that caused her to leave her family have been resolved and she is in a better place emotionally/family wise.

By 'better place' i didn't mean I was hoping she died or anything. Sorry - 'better place' was a poor choice of words b/c of the connotation it carries (and that i didn't intend).

I just find it a bit unusual that there was the initial large scale alarm she was missing & it suddenly went silent. That's why I'm hoping the situation that caused her to leave was resolved & she is now in a healthy situation.

Gotcha! Thanks for clearing that up!
