"Police said Joan Viau hasn’t been seen since Monday afternoon when she left her apartment on Carlisle Place in the Bronx with her ‘other’ son for a doctor’s appointment."

How could that be "last seen"? If she left the apartment with her son for an appointment, I would assume he saw her after they left the apartment!

Did they make it to the appointment? How did she get home again?

And if she was "last seen" on Monday, why did her boyfriend wait until Wednesday to report her? She seems like someone who would be in touch and likely be at home.

Worried!

"Law enforcement sources say she was on her way to the Veterans Affairs hospital with one of her sons. It's not clear why they were headed there.

The car was found in Manhattan with blood on one of the seats, sources say. That prompted crime scene detectives to search her home Thursday, and they were seen walking out with bags of evidence."

Replying to my own quote.

There is a VA Hospital in the Bronx and there is also one in Manhattan. No indication in the article which hospital she was going to, but probably the one in the Bronx? IDK

Hmm... this report contradicts the above report in regards to the car:

"Viau’s boyfriend found her car not far from the apartment with blood on the rear seat and a bloody palm print on the ceiling. The boyfriend is no longer cooperating with police, D’Auria reported."

"The missing woman's son, Joseph Garcia, has been using her credit card, according to the NYPD, and is a person of interest in her disappearance.

Viau's longtime boyfriend told detectives that he took her to the Veterans Affairs Hospital in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx for her regular treatment."

This is different than what I read yesterday. Now it seems that it was the boyfriend, not the son, who took Joan to the VA hospital. And it seems that the VA is in the Bronx and her car was found in the Bronx.

Unclear if they went to the VA in her car or another car. Her car was found in the Bronx (a report yesterday said Manhattan), and the car had blood in it.

I'd like to know whose car was used to take Joan to the VA? Her car? Another car? And did she indeed make her appointment?

And then there is this: "Both the boyfriend of about 15 years and the older son have prior arrests."

BBM above: since we have a named POI, can we sleuth? I'll alert mod to ask.

Sleuth away and thanks for the alert. ;)

Thanks! I hope someone with better sleuthing skills than I have will jump in.

There are two Joseph Garcia's listed as Joan's FB friends, and both are rather useless, but here they are:

https://www.facebook.com/joseph.garcia.3950?pnref=friends.search
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009293672366

There could be one more "friend" of Joan's on FB who is Joseph, but I'm not entirely sure so I'm not linking. But, if you look on Joan's list of friends and search for "Garcia," you'll find a name that is similar to Joseph (but perhaps "more hip") and the age seems to match. Still not much info there, but might have some clues.

And.....a warning. If you find who I'm talking about and then find a twitter account for that same name.....well, it's 🤬🤬🤬🤬. So be careful what you click on.

(I'm not linking to the Twitter as I don't think the Twitter person is the POI - though I don't know for sure. I think it's someone else with the same name variation. But if you're sleuthing Twitter, know that there is explicit stuff.)

"Police say the son was taken into custody on unrelated charges."

And, this seems to clarify who was taking Joan to the VA Hospital:

"...vanished on her way to the Veterans Affairs hospital with one of her sons earlier this week, and detectives say blood was found in her car."

From that quote, it sounds like she never made it to the appointment. Something obviously happened in the home (LE found blood in the home). I wonder if Joan was alive when she left her apartment.

Wow. Another case where the facts are bungled by the media.

Here's a good video, with updated info. The elder son was arrested on charges of using her credit card after her disappearance. The younger son and boyfriend are interviewed on the video.

And, it this coverage makes it sound like she was taking her son for treatment at the VA, not that he was taking her. So, he must be ex-military?

This link goes to CBS New York FB page. Scroll down to see the video posted today (Jan 27).

Her car was found on East 223rd Street, Bronx, which isn't that far from where she lived on Carlisle Place. The locations are near parks and water, though certainly not close enough to walk with a body. (Sorry to say that.)

I'm getting the location of the car from the video link above.

Yes, but I think details are getting straightened out. I'm just glad there is so much coverage and LE attention.

I hope if the son is responsible for her disappearance, he gives up the information on where she is. It's always a heartbreak knowing someone is out there alone.

I always hope for a safe return, but this isn't looking like it's heading in that direction. :(
