On June 2nd 1976, thirteen year old Kathy Woods left Burr Lane Junior High School in Dix Hills with two friends and they all began walking towards their respective homes. They last saw her at the corner of Arbor Lane and Caledonia Road at 5:30 pm when they parted ways. This was a short distance away from Kathy’s home located on Redwood Drive but she never made it home.

Kathy’s parents called police the next day to report her missing, they waited all night for her to return. A search of the neighborhood and surrounding areas revealed no trace of the girl’s whereabouts.

On June 5th 1976, a family who were bicycling down Sweet Hollow Road near Jericho Turnpike in Huntington discovered Kathy’s nude body wrapped in a canvas sheet and dumped along the narrow road lined with mostly trees.

Woods was the victim of a violent homicide. She was raped, her genitals had been mutilated, and her throat was slashed. She ultimately died from asphyxiation due to being forcibly gagged. Coroners estimated Kathy died 24 hours before her body was found. This leads investigators to believe she was abducted and held captive for two days before being killed.

So far, no credible suspects have been identified and the case ultimately remains unsolved.

Omg @Mysteries1974 thank you for starting this thread. I don’t remember this girl. It’s so sad. Reminds me of Cynthia Constantine in a way. I wonder if it was the same guy.
