Man charged with killing his 84-year-old mother, more than a year after police found her dead at NYC home: cops

The arrest was made more than a year after police found the victim’s lifeless body in her bedroom.

Edward Asencio, 51, was busted on Thursday and charged with manslaughter and second-degree assault charges for allegedly killing his mother, Ana Asencio, whose lifeless body was discovered face-up in the bedroom of her W. 93 St. apartment at 9:57 p.m. on July 17, 2023, according to police.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Asencio’s death a homicide on Jan. 15 after an autopsy revealed that bruising to her neck and injuries to her head resulted from strangulation.

Asencio was a retired public school teacher who suffered from dementia and lived with her son in the apartment, which was filthy, Rodriguez said.

Asencio was escorted out of the 24th precinct that night in cuffs by detectives where he refused to answer for his alleged crimes.
