• Distinguishing Characteristics African-American male. Black hair, brown eyes. Gibbs has a scar on his forehead just above his nose. He is of Jamaican descent.

[h=3]Details of Disappearance[/h] Gibbs was last seen on March 29, 1985 in Fallsburg, New York. He was riding the Short Line bus that evening. He may have gotten off near the Delmar Hotel in Loch Sheldrake at 9:00 p.m. and walked away in the direction of Liberty. He has never been heard from again.

At the time of his disappearance, Gibbs lived with his mother on Main Street. Few details are available in his case. He is missing under unknown circumstances.

FALLSBURG — Detectives are trying to discover whether the skeleton of a murdered man found in West Virginia is a missing Sullivan County teen who disappeared a quarter century ago.

Marvin Cornell Gibbs, 19, vanished March 29, 1985.
He lived on Main Street in South Fallsburg with his mother, Pearl Gibbs, who was originally from Jamaica.
Fallsburg police are looking for the woman or any close relatives, so they can create a DNA profile for a possible match.
Detectives dusted off a 25-year-old manila case file containing brief interview notes and a grainy black-and-white photo of the teen after they were contacted this spring by the Jeffersonville County, W.Va., Sheriff’s Department.

Break in missing-man case may lead to ID

FALLSBURG — Police have had a break in the 25-year-old disappearance case of former Fallsburg resident Marvin Cornell Gibbs.

Detectives were able to find family members living in Middletown and have obtained a DNA sample from Gibbs’ sister.

Considering Marvin as a match to this UID found deceased in Ohio in 1986. I wish we had more pics for comparison. I wonder if he had connections in Ohio.

I am currently searching for an additional photo of Marvin, but in my brief search, I’ve found that his mother and father had/have ties to Georgia (mostly) and South Carolina. FWIW.

Search continues for 4 missing people in the Hudson Valley

The search is continuing tonight for several missing people from the Hudson Valley after two adults reported missing were found deceased this summer.

Police are looking for the men and women, and so are volunteers with the missing persons organization Hope Alive 845.

“We were involved in the four girls missing from Port Jervis. We located three of them out of four,” said Hope Alive 845 founder Domingo Ramos. “We’re still looking for Heather Callas. We’re still involved in the Shaniece Harris case, and we are still looking for Steven Graft and Marvin Gibbs. He’s another one who went missing from '85 that no one is talking about.”

This is in the Borscht Belt, made famous by the movie Dirty Dancing. The Delmar Hotel was still open at the time, it closed under its original owners in 1987, and is physically still standing though it's been derelict for over 3 decades. Located here, off CR 52:
