The killings were sparked when the boy spilled a bottle of bubble liquid at 10 p.m. and Smith flew into a rage, according to testimony at the Brooklyn Supreme Court trial.

Smith yelled at the boy, which angered his mother. The couple wound up in a screaming match that escalated until Smith slapped his girlfriend and then strangled her with a belt.

Francis, a college student, was eight months pregnant.

Smith then turned his fury on Michael, luring him into the bathtub, officials charged.

A Brooklyn paralegal who once faced the death penalty for the horrific 2002 double murders of his pregnant girlfriend and her 6-year-old son was sentenced yesterday to life in prison.

Larry Smith, 33, apologized in Brooklyn Supreme Court for strangling Melesha Francis, 25, with his hands and a belt and then luring Michael Stolz into a bath and drowning him in June 2002.
