Ross Reisner, according to police, was sitting alongside his longtime partner in their living room Tuesday night around 8:45 p.m. when an apparent sniper, using a high-caliber weapon, fired multiple bullets through the window of the victim's Setauket home in Suffolk County. Reisner, 50, was transported to Stony Brook University where he was pronounced dead. Reisner's partner of 26 years was grazed in the arm with a bullet.

Umm . . . this is from the New York Post, but anyway . . .
Suffolk County cops are looking for Brett Knight, 45, an estranged pal of murdered Ross Reisner and his partner of 25 years, Kevin Murray, sources said.
Sources said the couple let him rent a room in their house for a while.

From the CBS story:

“The gunfire did not come through the front windows of the home, but the shooter clearly stood in the yard and fired through one of the windows from the yard.”

What is that supposed to mean? Or is it a case of the world's worst proofreading?

Maybe they're just trying to say that, since the shots didn't come through the front window, the shooter must have been somewhere in the side or back yard and not on the street or sidewalk.

Brett Knight pleads not guilty to Ross Reisner's slaying

The longtime friend and former tenant of a well-known horseman shot dead last month in his Setauket home appeared in a Suffolk courtroom Wednesday morning, pleading not guilty to murder charges.

Brett C. Knight, 45, of Manhattan, was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury last week on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of aggravated harassment -- all in connection with the shooting death of well-known equestrian Ross Reisner, 50, and the wounding of Reisner's longtime partner, Kevin Murray.

https://www.longislandexchange.com/...ears-in-prison-for-murder-of-former-landlord/

A former American Express executive was sentenced to 22 years in prison today for the homicide of a Setauket man...

Brett Knight hid in the bushes next to the victims’ house on Upper Sheep Pasture Road on the evening of September 24, 2013 and fired his .40 caliber Smith & Wesson eleven times through the kitchen window, killing Ross Reisner, 50, and grazing the arm of Reisner’s companion, Kevin Murray.

The 47-year-old Utah native met the victims in the early 1990s and moved into their home after American Express fired him after 18 years of employment. Knight’s relationship with the pair deteriorated when he became convinced they interfered in his wrongful termination lawsuit... and was eventually evicted from his basement apartment after he assaulted Kevin Murray in 2010.
