Rucci was last seen at her apartment in the 6500 block of Lincoln Avenue in Lockport, New York around 9:00 p.m. on August 9, 2005. She has never been heard from again.
Rucci's apartment was found to be tidy and nothing was missing except her keys, appearing as if she left but was intending to return shortly. Bloodhounds tracked her scent to the Skateland down the road, then lost the trail.
Rucci disappeared two weeks before she was supposed to testify against her ex-boyfriend, Roger L. Hueber, who was awaiting trial on several child sex abuse charges. Both authorities and her family initially thought she had gone into hiding to avoid testifying.
Three weeks after she went missing, Rucci was indicted as Hueber's co-defendant for criminal sexual acts, sex abuse, and unlawfully dealing with a minor. Hueber eventually pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted rape and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He served time in prison and was released in early 2010.
Although Rucci is still listed as a wanted person, authorities no longer believe she ran away because of the criminal case. Due to the amount of time that has passed without any contact with her family (including her daughter) and the fact that nothing was taken from her apartment, foul play is now suspected in her case. Rucci's whereabouts remain unknown.
