MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was killed in a Midtown shooting Wednesday morning, sources told PIX11 News.

Brian Thompson, 50, was shot just before 7 a.m. near a hotel on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, sources said. Video posted to Citizen showed police tape on the Midtown street as police arrived at the scene.

He was rushed to an area hospital and later died. Thompson was in New York City for an investors meeting at a Hilton hotel, according to sources.

The shooting is being investigated as a possibly targeted hit, sources said.

ok I didn't know there was a perp walk in the courthouse (brought your post over from the last thread) but I would assume it was the press that filmed it? @Muddy K

Re: @GRT question Rosenthal and Moore

“Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument,” the suspect, Luigi Mangione, wrote in the document, which was posted online in its entirety by the journalist Ken Klippenstein. “But many have illuminated the corruption and greed (e.g.: Rosenthal, Moore), decades ago and the problems simply remain.”

Rosenthal is a senior contributing editor at KFF Health News and its former editor-in-chief. Moore has produced films including the 2007 documentary “Sicko,” which criticized the U.S. health care system. He also filmed “Bowling for Columbine,” which examined the country’s gun violence problem.

“I don’t condone murder for any reason. This is a terrible, tragic murder, and it shouldn’t have happened,” Rosenthal said in an interview. “That being said, I’ve basically spent the last decade of my life hearing from and reporting on patients who are deeply frustrated and angry with a health system that doesn’t serve their needs.”

I found the following interesting, since LM lived in Honolulu for a time.

UHC provides medical insurance coverage for residents of Hawaii, but they also provide some other insurance products not typically associated with health insurance companies including:

Accident insurance and critical illness insurance, which many financial planners consider to be non essential, and gives scammy vibes, IMO.

Very odd IMO and since LM lived in Honolulu he may have been well aware.

Also United HC provides the state Medicaid programs.

Thank you for that incredibly thorough information!

Rosenthal's statement is nearly identical to what I'm hearing/reading elsewhere. She denounces the killing but then reinforces the idea that people are suffering under the US insurance system and how it isn't working.

Luigi will have to pay for what he did. We are a nation of laws, after all, but I hope some good will come from the public conversation that's occuring now. I ordered the kindle version of Rosenthal's book, An American Sickness.

he’s using an address in Towsen here, i wonder if it’s his family’s address and he didn’t have his own place to live at the moment he was arrested

eta: it seems like the house on this address was sold in june of this year, but he might not have been aware of that if he hasn’t been in contact with his family

Another example of "I don't condone murder, but . . . "

According to Zillow, that house was sold in June, 2024. I suppose it could have been sold to a family member but more likely it was outdated info by the time of his arrest.

It is curious that we have absolutely no idea where he was staying for months prior to the murder. Did everything fit into his couple of backpacks? Is there a storage unit somewhere? Did he sell or give away any possessions after his last apartment rental in Hawaii? Where has this dude been?

Yes. I’m curious to know if he formally moved out of his last known residence in Hawaii. I would think so. Otherwise, I’d expect a missing person’s report would’ve been filed earlier. If he did formally move out, I’d like to know when that occurred.

Q re COMMISSARY account for LM. From article in The Hill.
"... many...make deposits to his prison commissary account to help fund his defense."

Are ppl who want to provide $ for his legal DEFENSE making deposits to his commissary account? Or to "traditional" online fund raising platforms? Or "new" sites, sprouting specifically in the wake of LM's arrest?

LM is being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, the only federal jail operating in NYC IIUC.
Does the info re sending $ (below** per fed BOP.gov) apply to LM as a PRE-trial detainee at Bklynn MDC? Anyone? TiA
(BTW, FWIW, not sending $ to him)

Interesting. I wonder if LM's back injury occured in Hawaii (if he has one which I believe he does due to the xray posted previously on his FB). Perhaps because he was living in Hawaii he was covered under United Health care.
In that case wouldn't this be more of a personal vendetta rather than an altruistic one? JMO

IIRC, United Health Care gave a statement that LM was never covered by UHC.
