Brief Redirect- State asks if Detweiler's wife was proud of the work he did in PA. He says yes. State asks, "Is that a crime?" KA now briefly approaches to clarify a certain placement of Mangione by Detweiler and Frye. Witness is dismissed. Defense is now arguing that BWC footage should not be released to the media, as it would create an issue for Mangione to get a fair trial.

Judge Carro will seal every exhibit for now, until the trial starts- then the press can move to unseal. A member of the press stood up to argue, and was kicked out. Court is adjourned until Thursday.

I have not been able to follow this as closely as I would like. What evidence is the Defense seeking to exclude?

My thoughts are with the Thompson family another horrible holiday season w/o their father, son, uncle, loved one. My words mean nothing, but, I know that both of Brian Thompson's son's lives changed forever the day their father was murdered.

Judge Carro enters and calls the defense and prosecution to the bench.

Judge just called Al Baker, who handles all press and media for the court, up to the bench. Perhaps there will be a press argument on the sealed exhibits?

First State witness of the day: Altoona Police Officer Tyler Frye.

Prosecutor asks if Frye is nervous, and he says "a little bit." He's 26 years old and been a patrolman with Altoona PD for 2 years.

Frye confirms he was with Detweiler on Dec 9, 2024, in a patrol car, with Detweiler driving, when they got dispatched to the McDonalds. The dispatch called is played.

Frye confirms that he was given a description of the suspect via the notes from the computer in the patrol car- medical mask, tan beanie, black jacket. Mangione is staring at the witness now, with his head tilted to the side.

His BWC is played, the shot is inside the car at 9:27AM. He points out the license plate reader and CAD system in the shot.

Frye confirms via BWC that they enter the McDonald's through what he thinks is the front entrance facing Plank Rd. When entering, you can here a voice saying "He's back here." He explains the layout of the McDonald's. (My opinion: we're going to go through everything from Tuesday, from his BWC perspective)

He confirms that they were the only two officers on the scene at 9:29AM, and that Detweiler asked him to run the Mark Rosario license when suspect hands it over. He confirms that if it's fake, nothing will come up in the system.

Mangione is looking down, taking lots of notes, while occasionally looking back up at the screen at the BWC video footage playing.

9:30AM, suspect is asked to stand up and put his hands on his head for a quick pat down. Frye confirms the backpack is near his (own) feet.

In the BWC footage, Frye attempts to make small talk with the suspect, saying he looked suspicious. Mangione says on the video, "I was just trying to use the wi-fi."

Frye is asked if the suspect on the BWC is in the courtroom, and he identifies Luigi Mangione, sitting at the table with his laywers. BWC footage continues to play.

I didn't catch this the other day, but when Detweiler asks Mangione on BWC if he has family in Altoona, he replied, "No, I'm homeless."

Mangione is watching the video and taking more notes. His head is almost always tilted to the side when he looks down. He's leaning over his notes.

LM’s defense is trying to suppress the evidence the police who arrested LM found: 3D printed weapon + silencer, journal writings, electronic devices, and questioning about when given the miranda rights.

Frye confirms he never told suspect he couldn't leave the McDonalds, he never mentioned the NY CEO shooting, and both he and Detweiler never took their weapons out.

It's 9:41AM on the BWC footage, and Frye confirms that Detweiler has now moved the backpack. He says he was aware of the backpack from the moment he walked in. Lt. Hanley's voice is in the background trying to run the Rosario ID again.

We hear Detweiler call to McCoy to replace where he was standing by the backpack and suspect so he could step outside. Frye confirms.

McCoy approaches suspect, and we hear him ask him if he has any weapons on him. We can't make out the answer.

McCoy picks up the backpack and moved it to another table at 9:43AM. He then picks up a laptop and moves it to the table with the bag.

McCoy asks suspect, "Do you know what this nonsense is all about? Suspect (Mangione) answers, " We're going to find out, I guess."

McCoy also moves the CVS bag to the table with the laptop and backpack as well. It's 9:44AM.

Patrolman Fox enters at 9:45AM (K9 Officer) with the ID. You can see customers leaving and walking around in the background of the McDonald's.

It's 9:47AM, and Detweiler approaches suspect and tells him that he's under investigation, and if he gives a false name, he will be arrested. Mangione provides his real information and DOB, with his arms crossed. He's asked why he lied by Patrolman Fox- Mangione answers, "Clearly, I shouldn't have." He's asked again, and answered, " That was the ID I had in my wallet."

We're now at 9:49AM, and Mangione is being mirandized. It's explained again that he provides them with anything false, he will be arrested.

It's 9:51AM, and Mangione is instructed to stand up (they frisk again and find the knife for the peanut butter). He's cuffed, and someone from the DA's office takes a photo of Mangione with a cell phone (I think iPhone). Police ask him about his Maryland ID, and how to spell his name etc- he tells them.

It's 9:56AM, Mangione asks the police, "Can I ask why there are so many cops here?"State asks if that was asked because of anything he or other officers said. Frye says no.

9:58AM, Mangione is asked if there is anything in the bag they should know about. I couldn't make out his response. The bag is now being searched. The state asks Frye if this is after he was taken into custody. Frye says yes. We also see him pull out a black glove from Mangione's jacket pocket, and a jar of peanut butter.

We see Patrolman Wasser (female officer searching the bag) in the corner of Frye's BWC shot, going through the backpack as Mangione removes layers and continues to get frisked. It's 10AM now, and Mangione is walked outside. They are now playing the same time frame of footage from Detweiler's BWC.

@Uebey

*A lot of this bodycam footage is going to be stuff we already saw from Detwiler on Tuesday. The only new info we'll get is from the couple moments Detwiler stepped outside, and Frye was still inside with Luigi.

We're watching another angle of the search at 9:58AM. Mangione is standing adjacent to the search table facing out (not towards the table), maybe a few feet away. Officers are removing his layers and frisking him- he's standing still. McCoy pulls out a piece of paper from Mangione's pocket.

Meanwhile, Mangione is leaning over to Karen Agnifilo, whispering something as they look up at the video.

Frye confirms they had little conversation in the car in the 10 minute ride from McDonalds to the station. Frye said that Mangione apologized for the inconvenience in the McDonald's, and Frye responded to him that the ID was ridiculous. State asks for a short recess.
