If LM murdered an insurance CEO to make some kind of public statement or call to action, why isn't he proudly pleading guilty? Did it, proud of it, happy to pay the price because it's what he set out to do and he did it.

Pretty cowardly to shoot a man in the back, claim it's the little guy stomping tge big guy, and then say he didn't even do it.

Ironic that the very Constitution he violated in regard to BT's right to life, liberty, pursuits of happiness including going to work and walking down sidewalks is the same one he wants to uphold, in regard to his.

If he didn't do it, why did he give LE a fake ID? Because he didn't want to be imprisoned for... hashbrowns?

I dare say he knew who he was, and he knew why LE was there.

Ironically, no one thought it was going to be HIM.

Because, honestly, what were the odds? It was the longest shot... until it wasn't.

and why would he tell them his real name after giving them a fake id

Is it normal for evidence suppression hearings to last for a few weeks? I believe they've gotten through 7 out of about 30 witnesses so far. So will these hearings go on for another 3 weeks? A lot of trials don't last that long.

Because he knew they knew who he was. Jig was up.

Potentially an unrelated crime. To me this would be an example of reasonable doubt.

I accidentally unfollowed this case. When's he due to go to trial? I now have United Healthcare again.

I am not seeing that a court date as been set as they are still in pre-trial mode. I apologize if this has been shared already, but you can also find case updates here: Luigi Mangione Legal Defense Information

JMO, it was a relevant statement. I’m glad to see that younger people are passionate about health care reform, a problem often ignored. Every generation faces their own challenges and develops their own priorities. They have the right to voice their concerns and work constructively to promote them. They all deserve respect. It’s the American way, as they say.
Imo, the defendant allegedly execution of Brian Thompson was not about health care reform.

Yes, everyone, no matter age, has the right to voice opinion about health care reform, as it affects as all; however, at a murder hearings/trials. No, (imo).

In addition, there are several (not sure the count) young ladies there supporting the defendant. I ask, is this an attempt to taint the jury?

Day 4 (technically Day 5, but defendant was sick Friday) of the Luigi Mangione Suppression Hearing. Karen Agnifilo and Jacob Kaplan are in attendance, Marc Agnifilo is not. Mangione just walked in, wearing a dark grey suit and a light blue button down shirt- he took a moment to look around the gallery while he was getting his shackles/cuffs off.

After both sides approached the bench for a brief discussion, the first witness for the state was called: Blair County, PA First ADA Nicole Smith.

Smith points out that the DA position of Peter Weeks was an elected position. She is licensed to practice in NY and PA. Around 7 minutes to 10AM on December 9th, Smith received a call from Lt. Hanley while she was in court. Smith believes Hanley is in a "higher" position at Altoona PD. She has worked with him briefly in the past.

Smith says she stepped outside to take his call, and Hanley advised her that he believed he had the NY Ceo Shooter in the McDonalds, and they were engaging with him. He indicated they were dispacted on a civilian report, and when they arrived Mangione provided a fake name and drivers license that he later admitted to. Hanley then asked Smith about the charge that would be appropriate-she advised on the charges (false ID and forgery).

Smith clarifies that she stepped back in the court room to ask DA Weeks to step outside with her, and provide Hanley with the charges. She confirms these charges were lodged by PA and not NY.

State asks Smith about her knowledge of the "NY case" that morning (Objection, Relevance, Overruled). Smith says she didn't know much, just about a shooting in Manhattan.

She is now describing the Criminal Complaint and how it's prepared by the Affiant or Arresting Officer- DA does not prepare these at all- under some charges, DA approval is neccesary (homicide, r*pe, etc). Smith and Weeks reviewed the complaint after, and says that forgery is not a common charge that a DA would review, but not completely out of the ordinary.

Smith explains the review was also because this may include multiple jurisdictions...

Smith is reviewing the complaint on the stand, and describes DA Weeks signature on it.

She is now reading the criminal complaint and the charges:

Smith explains that on December 9, 2024, the complaint was sworn before a judge, and this is somewhat common. She goes on to explain that the arraignment was the same day, later that evening, maybe 6:30PM or so in "Courtroom 1" at the Blair County Courthouse. It's the largest courtroom. Smith says there was a lot of media attention, and media and LE present in court.

Smith points out Mangione at the defense table between his attorneys.

Smith explains she also approved a search warrant as well. Officer Houston was tasked with preparing a warrant that incudes a buchal swab, with the assistance of Detweiler and Frye, and also a member of the NYPD. Smith says Houston was advised by the DA's office to additionally seek the court's permission to transfer custody to the NYPD.

Did she have concerns if she didn't get the search warrant and turned items over to NYPD?

Some were not "contraband"- digital devices, notes, USB's etc-those would have been put aside and given back to Mangione, unless they obtained a warrant.

The false ID and firearm would have been inventoried based on the charges. State asks about the "manifesto" and Smith says that would have been returned to him.

OBEJCTION to the characterization of the word "Manifesto"... Overruled. Mangione shakes his head.

Smith is handed a copy of the search warrant. Kaplan (defense) asked to approach the bench

*Detective Houston, not Officer Houston as I wrote before. Smith indicates Houston spoke to local Altoona police Detweiler and Frye, and also someone in NYPD Homicide- Detective Oscar Diaz. On the 3rd page of the warrant, Houston lists every piece of property on the defendant (Smith is told not to list all of it).State asks if this were a local charge, unrelated to NY, evidence that would have been held: handgun, suppressor, false ID. Everything else personal could be released to family (not listed).

Smith is now describing the second search warrant as it pertains to Mangione's clothing- and was signed by DA Weeks, reviewed by the DA's office. She's reviewing it on the stand.

This second search warrant granted them permission to turn over the clothing to the NYPD.

State goes back to 9:53AM and asks Smith if at the time of Hanley's call, was there a joint investigation between her office and NY regarding the shooting of Brian Thompson?

She answers no.

Smith also confirmed that prior to this case, she has no connection to anyone in the NYPD, DA's Office or Brian Thompson.

No cross-examination, but Karen Agnifilo objects to the characterization of a "manifesto" and also calling the shooting an "execution." Carro says it's fine for the hearing as it has no effect on him, but will NOT happen at trial.

I sincerely doubt only women are attending to support the defendant.

The state calls Officer Christy Wassar, of Altoona PD (she searched Mangione's backpack).

Wasser explained she has worked at Altoona PD for 19 years, and worked at two smaller departments and the Blair County Sheriff prior. Her last name is spelled with an e, Wasser (apologies for earlier mispelling)

Wasser is asked about her higher up's that day (December 9), and she answers Hanley is a higher up, and confirms she was working patrol by herself that day. She was assigned to a specific region that day, but doesn't recall exactly where. She was on the north side of the city, and heard the dispatch about the "suspicious person" at the McDonald's who resembled the NY CEO Shooter.

At 9:35AM, Wasser calls Detweiler because she hadn't heard from anyone, and knew he was dispatched to the McDonald's. The BWC camera is played at 9:37AM of Detweiler radio-ing Wasser back, saying he was "a little busy." He is standing by the table at the McDonald's. Wasser says she began to head towards the McDonald's as Detweiler always answers her call and she thought "something was up..."

She describes her knowledge about the "CEO Shooter," saying she knew what happened and that he was "on the loose." She saw this on Fox News. We are shown part of the incident video (the actual shooting)- Wasser confirms that she saw the video. She's asked about the weapon, and says it was a "handgun with a silencer."

State is attempting to ask Wasser if anything helped her determine on whether or not this was a premeditated crime or not- OBJECTION is sustained and State moves on.

She is shown a series of suspect photos (hostel, taxi etc), and confirmed she saw these prior to December 9th, on Fox News.

Wasser confirms she was aware the gun was not found as of December 9th.

I didn't catch this in court last week during the hearings; Luigi Mangione used a "Vanilla" Visa Giftcard for his purchases.

I hope I don't sound like an idiot, but I thought you were writing this in your own words the entire time until I looked at the linked Twitter. It's a little hard to tell what is from the reporter on Twitter and what are your own thoughts. JMO.

Thank you so much for posting these updates!
