Family of Perry County homicide victim offers reward
It's a day that is never far from their minds.
Pam Nelson and her daughter, Abbie Vann, say the death of their loved one haunts them.
"We relive this every day, every day," Nelson said. "This never goes away."
Nelson's daughter, Amy Jo, died on Sept. 18, 2017. She was found in an apartment on Main Street, right in the heart of New Straitsville. Her family rushed to the scene and knew immediately something wasn't right.
"When you looked at her, there was no question that something had happened, something physically had happened to her," Vann said. "She had bruising and blood on her face. She just, I mean, was clear there was something wrong, that something had happened to her."

Just days after they hung the posters, someone tore down nearly half of them. It turns out, the suspect was captured on video by the cameras at the fire department just down the street.

The new mayor, John Roberts, made it clear on his Facebook page that he was not happy about it.

He wrote: "Please be advised town personnel and other citizens have observed and continue to observe tape from security cameras throughout downtown and elsewhere, developing strong leads as to who is responsible for removing these flyers. We are currently gathering information on what legal action can take place."

Justice for Amy
On Sept. 18, 2017, Amy Nelson lost her life — allegedly at the hands of another. While many have been quick to speculate that Nelson died of an overdose, this is not the case according to the death certificate. And although no one has been charged in Nelson’s death, the death certificate clearly states it’s a homicide.
This article suggests it was domestic violence, and her fiance is listed in her obit. below.

Amy Jo Nelson-Smith
Besides her parents, she is survived by her fiancé, Chris Smith; daughters, Suri and Allie; sisters, Abbie (Russell) Vann and Jessica (Josh) Cozad; nephews, Tucker and Parker Vann; nieces, Jetta and Jade Cozad; her in-laws, Judy and Gary Smith; her grandparents, Mabel and Howard Nelson; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her two daughters, Kessah and Kayla; grandparents, Dorothy and Bob McGrath; great-grandmother, Mabel Williams.
