What am I missing? I thought the video showed the car pulled into the parking lot but no one was seen getting in or out. It sound like he drove her car there with her in the back seat and left though. Anyone who can help me understand?

Yes, it seems like thats what he did. The police probably withheld that info on purpose when the story broke. When reviewing the security camera footage, they must have seen him pull in and exit the vehicle. But they did not tell the public what they saw. This allows them to interview a person of interest, and see if that person lies about the events that took place on said video.
