The second of two men convicted for his role in the overdose death of a 17-year-old Girard girl was sentenced to a mandatory five years in prison on Monday.

Tyler Stevens, 20, of Girard, told the court he was "very sorry for what happened." However, Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Peter Kontos was quick to remind Stevens that his sentence could have been more severe if he hadn't testified against James Patterson, 28, of Youngstown.

Patterson, a convicted sex offender, was found guilty during a three-day jury trial of reckless homicide, drug trafficking and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced May 24 to a 20-year prison term for supplying the heroin that killed Christine Sheesley, who overdosed on her birthday last year.
