AKRON, Ohio — A statewide Amber Alert has been issued for a 4-year-old Akron boy who police believe was taken Monday evening following a shooting.

Officers arrived at the 1100 block of Tulip Street in the South Akron neighborhood around 6:50 p.m. and found an unconscious adult woman outside. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and witnesses said they saw the missing child's father grab him before fleeing. Video shows the suspect grabbing his son before getting in his car, according to authorities.

The child has been identified as Fabian Claudio-Castro. He is described as a 2-foot-6, 30-pound Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and khaki shorts, but no photos of him are available at this time.

Officials say the suspect is 24-year-old Jose Castro, who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 132 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts at the time of the alleged crime and is believed to be driving a silver 2016 Kia Soul with an Ohio license plate number of HLD9706. He should be considered "armed and dangerous," according to police.

The female shooting victim was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital and is currently in critical condition. Her identity has not been released.

Anyone with knowledge of either Fabian or Jose Castro's whereabouts should immediately call 911.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio —
An Amber Alert was canceled for a missing 4-year-old boy from Akron Monday night and his father is now in custody.

The alert was issued just before after 9 p.m. Monday and canceled around 10:45 p.m. According to WLWT's sister station WKYC, the boy was "returned unharmed" to Akron authorities.

According to jail records, 24-year-old Jose Castro has been booked into the Summit County Jail.

According to the jail, Castro was booked by the Akron Police Department at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Castro is facing charges of kidnapping and felonious assault.

Jail records say Castro will make his first appearance in court Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

The sisters of an Akron woman who was shot multiple times in front of her 4-year-old son, whose kidnapping prompted an Amber Alert on Monday, say the shooting was preventable after she tried to get multiple protection orders against her ex-boyfriend and the father of her child, according to Beacon Journal news partner News 5 Cleveland.

Akron police said the woman's ex-boyfriend and father of the child, Jose Castro, shot the woman and kidnapped their son Monday in the 1100 block of Tulip Street in South Akron.

Castro, 24, of Akron was arrested early Tuesday morning in Cleveland. He's charged with one count of kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He was arraigned Wednesday morning after refusing to come out of his cell for his scheduled Tuesday arraignment.

Castro's bond was set at $1 million. An additional hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

The woman, Elsie Rivera Ortiz, was upgraded to stable condition late Tuesday night, police said.

The boy, who is currently in Jenitza’s care after being dropped off unharmed to a family friend who brought the boy to a detective, "saw everything. He saw his mom laying on the ground and his dad shooting at her," said Elsie's sister, Jenitza Rivera.

“She loves her kid, that’s her life. She would do anything for him. She’s a wonderful mother,” Jenitza told News 5 Cleveland. “She brings joy to everybody.”

Her sisters Genesis and Jenitza Rivera told News 5 Cleveland that Elsie, 24, is stable and conscious but has a long road of recovery ahead of her after being shot 11 times, including in the pelvis.
