Thirty seven years ago today on the morning of Friday January 23, 1981, a next door neighbor discovered the body of 34 year old Gordon Butch Swindells at 6:30 a.m. in the 3100 block of Medina Avenue on the north side of Columbus in the North Linden area.
Swindells was found lying face up on a walkway with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Several hours earlier at around 1:00 a.m. that morning, some of the neighbors living in the 3100 block of Medina Avenue reported hearing a gunshot.
Gordon Butch Swindells was employed as a meat cutter at a warehouse for Big Bear, a former supermarket chain in Columbus. He also was an active member of a dart league.
And days prior to his murder, Swindells wife had filed for a divorce and a restraining order.
During the past thirty seven years, no one has ever been arrested in connection with the murder of Gordon Butch Swindells and the case remains unsolved to this day.
Columbus Police are asking for tips that can help solve this cold case and bring justice to the family of this victim.
And the Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward leading to the arrest or indictment of the person responsible for Swindells death.
