"A former Springboro physical education teacher has been charged with multiple counts of sexual misconduct for inappropriately touching elementary school students, according to prosecutors.

John Austin Hopkins, 25, of Springboro, has been indicted on 36 counts of gross sexual imposition, according to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell. On Monday, Fornshell said all of the charges involved first-grade girls at Clearcreek Elementary...

Fornshell said the grand jury found 36 incidents of touching that rose to a criminal level. Those incidents involved 28 first grade girls. Fornshell said those situations of touching included having his hands up shirts or skirts, on buttocks, or straddling lap."

The potential victims were reportedly identified through security footage beginning in December 2018 after Hopkins was accused of having contact with a first-grader.

Hopkins allegedly had female students sit on his lap so he could touch them sexually, WHIO reports. Former Ohio teacher faces sex charges involving at least 28 first graders

“The kids may not notice anything at all going wrong, but when you’re watching it as an adult, your stomach starts rolling," Fornshell said. "Because you’re like, 'This is not OK.'”

Fornshell said the video shows Hopkins touching 88 girls between December 2018 and March 2019. Prosecutors submitted the video to a grand jury, and jurors determined what would be considered criminal contact, Fornshell said. Teacher charged with sexually abusing 28 first-grade girls

Hopkins was also an assistant swim coach at the Coffman Family YMCA in Springboro. President and CEO Dale Brunner said Hopkins coached for 18 months. He resigned on March 11. Communication was sent out to parents. There have been no victims come forward from the YMCA. Brunner said Hopkins was "never left alone with the swimmers."
