Missing Holgate man found dead in Toledo, police say

John Okuly, of Holgate, was found dead in his car in Toledo on Jan. 3, 2025, police said.

The family of 51-year-old John Okuly, of Holgate, says they last heard from him on Dec. 29 after he responded to a text around 4:30 p.m.

• The Flock camera system showed his vehicle was last seen at 10:34 p.m. on Dec. 29 going eastbound on W. Alexis Road near Telegraph Road.
• Per family, he was at Hollywood Casino Toledo that night as well.
• Family concerned for his safety as he takes several medications after having open heart surgery.
• Okuly is about 5′7″, 200 pounds, and was last seen wearing a red shirt with jeans, a cross necklace, and white Nike shoes.

'This is not like my brother': Missing Holgate man's family asking for help

John Okuly, 51, went missing from Holgate on Sunday and his sister says he has not been heard from since.

• On the morning of Dec. 30th, John's mom, who he lives with in Holgate, noticed he never came home.
• His sister, LB, said she had lunch with her mom and sister that day around noon and became more worried when none of their calls were answered.
• LB said her son called and John didn't pick up, and he usually picks up for her son.
• He wasn't seen since he was at his sister's place in Napoleon around 4 p.m. and last heard from two hours later when he responded around 6 p.m. to her daughter about spending New Year's Eve together.
• "This is not like my brother. Everyone that knows him knows he is so close to us and he would not do this without telling us where he is," LB said. "He would be in contact with someone."
• An ATM withdrawal at Huntington Bank in Rossford around 9 p.m. was the last use of his card.
• The family has asked the bank for camera footage, and were told a request would be made but it could take a few days. They have not heard back from the bank.
• They checked with the Hollywood Casino Toledo, not too far from the bank, and learned that John's rewards card was used but couldn't get any further information.
• While they were searching, they contacted one of his ex-girlfriends.
• The ex-girlfriend tells said she did get a text from John the day he went missing around 5 p.m. asking what she was doing but she didn't respond.
• After filing the missing person's report, LB said the Sheriff's Office told her they ran his license plate and found a ping on West Alexis Road and Telegraph Road that night.

I'm not the best at it but here are those three locations. It's a total distance of 10.4 miles or 22 minutes by vehicle.
