a report by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner confirmed it was Jordan Rodriguez whose remains were found buried in the yard.

Four of his mother’s other children had been placed in the custody of social workers as of the latest reports available.

Christopher Rodriguez, identified as the mother’s boyfriend, was arrested on suspicion of failure to pay child support. According to reports, it was his brother who led police to search the yard after reportedly receiving a jailhouse call from him confirming the location of the body.

Mom bribed social worker with food stamps, police say. Then cops found her son’s body

When officers investigating a missing child visited Larissa Rodriquez’s home, they found her children living in squalor.
Her Cleveland, Ohio, home was infested with cockroaches, bedbugs and rats, reported WEWS. One of her children was seen eating a sandwich with cockroaches in it, according to court documents. The body of a 5-year-old boy was found in the back yard after Rodriquez, 34, who has eight other children, told officers the child was visiting his father in Texas.
But Nancy Caraballo, a social worker assigned to check monthly on Rodriguez’s children, never reported the conditions in the home to authorities.

On Wednesday, Cuyahoga County authorities charged Rodriguez and Caraballo with trafficking in food stamps, reported WJW-TV.

According to the prosecutor's office, the social worker would report to the home but, rather than going inside, she would accept a food stamp card from Larissa Rodriguez. The social worker would then go and purchase goods with the card and return the card to her afterward. Authorities say the social worker purchased the food stamps, that were meant to feed the children, for 50 cents on the dollar.

As administrator of Jordan’s estate, Michelle Rodriguez is suing Catholic Charities for the wrongful death of her nephew. She says she’s doing it on behalf of Jordan’s siblings.

That’s because a Catholic Charities social worker Nancy Caraballo was hired to monitor Jordan’s well-being before he suffered a horrible death.

After five days five of trial, only one witness, Joan Hinkelman, the senior director of Family Services for Catholic Charities, has taken the stand.

“It occurred three months before Jordan died of starvation,” said Derataney. “You are responsible to go to that home twice a month.”

Derataney questioned Hinkelman about why supervisors never realized that Caraballo was forging reports claiming she visited Jordan, when oftentimes she did not.

“You haven’t laid eyes on that child in months, and your supervisor hasn’t even given a supervisory note?” Derataney questioned in court.

Instead of documenting abuse, Caraballo’s reports indicated that everything was fine.

When questioned, Hinkelman claimed she didn’t recall the details of this case.

But when pressed, she admitted Caraballo should have alerted supervisors that something was terribly wrong.

The trial is expected to continue on Monday.

An update for those who don't know how the lawsuit ended. Nancy Caraballo's employer, Catholic Charities Corporation, was found partially guilty in Jordans death in April 2024. The following week, because Catholic Charities did not act in malice in Jordans death, a jury decided that the corporation did not need to pay punitive damages.
