On the day of the attack, April 28, 2024, Blake Bates and his partner, Alyssa Smith, allowed the dog near the infant unsupervised with another young child, prosecutors said.

That was a disaster waiting to happen, especially since the dog had already attacked a child.

The attack happened in April of 2024. both adults have plead guilty, father for, among other things, involuntary manslaughter, the mother for child endangering. Both are awaiting sentencing
