Details of Disappearance​

Vonderheide was last seen at approximately 9:00 a.m. on May 5, 1987 at his residence in the vicinity of the 6200 block of Cambridge Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has never been heard from again.

His stepfather died in 2009, and in the obituary Vonderheide was listed as having survived him. Few details are available in his case; Vonderheide is missing under unknown circumstances.

Ronald “Ron” Vonderheide disappeared in 1987 and has never been found.

He engaged in an argument with his mother,” Lt. Jenkins said. “It’s kind of unclear what exactly the argument was about. However, he left the residence that evening... His mother called his brother Michael to come to the house, explaining that Ronald had left. She didn’t know where he was going, what was up, and asked him to look for Ronald, and according to Michael, he looked for Ronald, couldn’t find Ronald, and that was the last time anyone had any contact with him. It’s just really tough because basically, he walked out the front door of his mom’s house that night and has never been seen again.”

Sharon has not seen her son in more than three decades, and her recollection of what happened before he disappeared is different than what is in the police reports. She says she and Ronald never had disagreements, adding, through tears, that her gut feeling is that her son is still alive.

Interesting because police mention that he left after an argument, and that they don’t know what the argument was about.

And his mum either won’t reveal what the fight was about, or there wasn’t a fight at all.

I wonder what his brother thinks. The one that arrived at the house shortly after he went missing. I wonder if the brother and the mother have differing accounts.

Lt. Jenkins does have a working theory in Vonderheide’s case but said he does not have the evidence to prove it.

If the detective really thought that Vonderheide succumbed to the elements, he wouldn’t have made that statement.

The lieutenant seems to indicate he might have a possible suspect. I’m inclined to agree with him.

Police said they were informed by Ron’s brother that Ron had gotten into an argument with his mother. The brother’s account of the incident continues to say that their mother called him to help look for Ron, but he was never able to.

A police report from two years prior to Ron’s disappearance reveals Ron was shot by Cincinnati Police after he turned violent when he was offered a ride by an officer.

Lieutenant Jenkins said Ron would have a scar on his back from that bullet wound that would help with the identification of any remains.
