"He was out when it was raining so he's going to be wet," said Jeff Shari, chief of Cincinnati Search and Recovery. "Worried that he might have hypothermia by now.

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio —
Clermont County officials have issued a statewide Missing Adult Alert for Thomas Mills, a 71-year-old man.

Pierce Township police Chief Paul Broxterman said a neighbor was the last person to see Mills around 8 a.m. on Tuesday in the Amelia Court Apartment's parking lot at 1381 W. Ohio Pike.

Broxterman said when Clermont County County Senior Services arrived to pick up Mills, he was nowhere to be found.

"They checked inside. He wasn't there. So, they called the nephew who called us."
Broxterman said.

Police said Mills is 4 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 115 pounds, and has grey hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket.

"He only walks around this immediate area. He's lived here for two years, and he has a very distinctive ... he has trouble walking. So, we're hoping someone in the area sees him and gives us a call," Broxterman said.

The apartment complex is next to Kroger on Ohio Pike.

PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Dozens of people in a local community were searching the woods and the streets for a 71-year-old man with autism. Thomas Mills was last seen Tuesday morning near his Clermont County home, but has not been seen since.

There are people who go missing just about every day from somewhere in the Tri-State. But when, like in this case, a person has special needs, is elderly, and when it is very out-of-character for him to disappear, he is considered a critically missing person. And that is exactly the case with Thomas, or “Tommy”, Mills, who lives independently in his Pierce Township apartment. He was last seen near dumpsters in the complex Tuesday at about 8:00 a.m. He likes watching the trash truck as it empties them.

When Meals on Wheels came by Tuesday afternoon to drop off his food, Tommy was not home. The driver left the meals near the door, which is where they remained in the morning, next to Tommy's two small dogs, who were unusually left in their kennels overnight. The van from adult day care came by to pick up Tommy, like they do every Wednesday. He was not home.

*******************

Law enforcement had drones searching from the sky and hounds searching the woods behind the apartments.

"We're currently looking at cell data,” said Lt. Julie Poe, with the Pierce Township Police Department. “Speaking to neighbors, who have talked to the local businesses, who are reviewing surveillance, CCTV video."

Neighbors say it is just not like Tommy to leave on his own.

Another indication that Tommy did not leave on purpose was that he was really looking forward to this Friday, when his church was throwing him a 72nd birthday party.

Family is taking care of Tommy's dogs. If you have any information about his disappearance, police ask that you contact them immediately.

PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Concern continued to grow Thursday in Clermont County where the search continued for a missing man with autism.

Seventy-one-year-old Thomas Mills was last seen Tuesday morning outside his apartment complex in Pierce Township. He was reported missing Wednesday when Clermont County Senior Services arrived to pick him up, and he was nowhere to be found.

Drove out that way tonight looking around trying to figure out anywhere he might be. But it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Did the same thing on Weds night but didn't know the lay of the land as well. Studied Google Maps better today before heading out. It's so dark out that way once the sun sets.

PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - The search for a missing 72-year-old autistic man from Pierce Township has come to an end in its fourth day, but there was still no sign of him.

Large groups of volunteers, officials and working dogs went out on foot Saturday looking for Thomas Mills, who was last seen on Tuesday.

The search covered areas north of SR-125, including rough terrain areas, and concluded around 6:30 p.m., police say.

“We’ll still have small search teams going out,” Ohio LandSAR Chief John Adams said. “We’ll do that until he’s found, but as far as setting up an incident command and being here, this is going to be the last big day.”

Over the last three days, officials became increasingly worried about Mills’ well-being. Chief Adams believes Mills has difficulty walking and that he may be wearing dress shoes.

“He also needs high blood pressure medicine that he’s not getting,” Chief Adams said. " He was not dressed for the weather, again, we had rain, cold temperatures came in, so now we’re worried about hypothermia.”

According to Chief Adams, many of the volunteers and search personnel have full-time jobs and have been out searching for Mills every day. Although he says his team is “run-down,” the team has “put everything they have into trying to bring Mills home.”

Over the past couple of days, crews have also searched retention ponds in the area.

Call the Pierce Township Police Department at 513-752-4100 or call the Clermont County Communications Center at 513-732-2231 if you have information on Mills’ whereabouts.

Oh the poor guy. His 72nd birthday was last Friday (December 9). I bet he was really looking forward to that. I read above that his church was going to celebrate it and his family and friends probably had plans to celebrate it with him too.

In the OP it says "He was last seen near dumpsters in the complex Tuesday at about 8:00 a.m. He likes watching the trash truck as it empties them". Hmm, that makes me wonder if he could have fallen in one (for example, trying to make sure it all emptied or saw something down in the bottom of one and tried to reach it)? Or did he try and follow the truck to it's next stop and got lost? I hope and pray he is somewhere safe tonight.

I wonder if he was last seen by the garbage man and that is how they know, which could mean he was seen outside of the bins and didn't fall in?

Do we know what the garbage area of the complex looks like? Oftentimes they back up to woods or ravines

This report from the news article makes me think that the garbage/dumpster bit is not relevant? Assuming it was his family - where did they take him?

"The Clermont County Communication Center said Mills was last seen Tuesday, Dec. 6 around 8 a.m. He was seen leaving with family in the Amelia Court Apartments' parking lot, which is located at 1381 W Ohio Pike, police said."

This story is so upsetting and I would like to help search for Tommy. Who do I contact to help search?

A couple of things I wondered about:
Was his apartment door locked when he went missing?
Was he last seen watching the garbage truck or being picked up by family?
And not knowing who to contact about this but I wanted to share a story I read right after he went missing, and will try to link to it here. It's about an older man who was lost in the desert and people searched for him and used tracking dogs to no avail. Then they used his own dog who followed his owner's scent and they found him. Has anyone attempted this with Tommy's dogs? It's worth a try.

I think that you should contact the Pierce Township Police and/or the Ohio Land SAR and ask if they are still organizing search groups. They asked for volunteers for last Saturday, but in the article that was linked upthread the police chief said that Saturday was going to be the last "big day" for the search. However, the Ohio Land SAR Chief said this:

“We’ll still have small search teams going out,” Ohio LandSAR Chief John Adams said. “We’ll do that until he’s found, but as far as setting up an incident command and being here, this is going to be the last big day.”

This is a link to the Ohio Land SAR website:

The Pierce Township Police FB page has two threads, with comments, for Tommy. Some local people who have been searching have posted comments on those threads. Early in the search the police posted the following comments saying that the police, Ohio Lands SAR & Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church coordinated search efforts. They also give the location of the command post, but according to the referenced article (scroll up to post #7 for the link) it sounds like the command post might have been closed after Saturday.

Update: Thank you for the continued attention and concern for Tommy, unfortunately he still has not been located.
Dozens of searchers have been in the area since approximately 1100 am on Wednesday. The Pierce Township Police, Ohio Lands SAR and Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church have coordinated ground search efforts. Several K-9 teams have been deployed including a bloodhound from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office which have searched the area. At least two aerial searches have been conducted including the Ohio Lands SAR’s drone that has Thermal Imaging and night vision capabilities.
The Pierce Township Fire Department has used sonar to check several bodies of water in the area. The Georgetown Rumpke grounds were searched using a HRD dog. Officers have spent more 18 hours reviewing CCTV footage from the area and more than 100 flyers have been passed out.
Anyone wanting to volunteer in the search effort can go the incident command post located at the Kroger store in Amelia and check in with Ohio Lands SAR.
Anyone with information regarding Tommy Mills please contact the
Pierce Township Police Department at 513-752-4100 or 513-732-2231.

This is heartbreaking! I'm glad family is taking care of his dogs. But where are you Tommy??

If he isn't a regular walker or owns a bike he wouldn't have gotten far, at most a mile, maybe two. He is not comfortable crossing busy streets so he would have stayed on the same side as his apartment.
To the east on 125 is the village of Amelia, with businesses and homes. To the west on 125 are businesses and streets leading to neighborhoods. The area within a mile radius of his apartment at Amelia Court Apartments has been extensively searched by LE and volunteers and SAR, including ponds, empty buildings, sheds, the woods, etc. He is not comfortable crossing busy streets so he would have stayed on the same side as his apartment. All I can think is that someone enticed him into their vehicle - but who would kidnap an elderly autistic man?

Still missing.

Local 12 learned that police watched 70 hours of video surveillance from a nearby Kroger store. It shows Mills leaving his apartment at 10:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5.

He appeared to be holding things and it was not unusual for him to take items to the dumpster in his parking lot.

Police say search and rescue teams spent considerable time last week searching the landfill but did not find Mills.

Volunteers and law enforcement have also combed the nearby woods and ponds -- and are still searching there.
