Wendy's daughter says her mother meticulously planned and packed for her trip.

“Seven rounds missing of ammunition does indicate self-defense purposes,” Rose says. “People in Alabama don’t frequently speak Czech, and those notes were written in [it] and so they were using Google Translate and so they were able to actually determine what was said, they have multiple different opinions and they do know that it’s not as macabre as they initially thought it was.”

Many just learning of Rose’s disappearance may only know her as a missing hiker, but her own story covers more ground. Vendula, who affectionately goes by “Wendy,” was born in Kolin, a small town in the Czech Republic, and came to the United States in 2001, not long after meeting and marrying David Rose while he was in Prague during Thanksgiving. She was 18 years old.

“He got lost and asked her for directions, and then he asked if she wanted to go dance with him,” Dana said. “From there, they fell in love.”

All of my warmest prayers, and also, her daughter seems incredible. She has left a beautiful legacy in the world.

The magazine and ammo could be because she carried while hiking/camping alone. Depending on the area and the risk of predators in the area, I sometimes carry a pistol when outdoors, in rough and remote terrain, if alone.
Including two-legged predators. I know that even male metal-detectorists in the US often carry firearms when detecting in remote places, especially when alone.

This is such a sad outcome! It does sound like a suicide amidst a mental health crisis, though I am surprised that with a search in the area, given her car’s location, it took such a long time to find her!

She sounds like an extraordinary woman. What a devastating loss to her daughter. Clearly, she was inspired by her mom and looking forward to many happy years ahead with her.

Condolences to her family. I wish she had been able to hold on a little bit longer.

Eta: moo.
