I wonder if there was any significance to the fact that it was her first day working at that particular station ? Was it a station were it was common for only one employee to work alone for certain periods of time ?

Is it possible that another employee in the company was responsible, if they knew that she was going to be working there alone on that day ?

It seems that she left the station without a struggle, but I guess anyone could have lured her out on some sort of ruse, but i think it would have to be someone local who knew the "lay of the land". JMO.

This is a sad case, it's too bad it hasn't been solved. The old newspaper clipping posted earlier in this thread about how it was thought by police at the time that she was a runaway certainly shows how that was a common misconception back in earlier decades when dealing with younger missing people..it certainly hindered the solving of many Doe and missing persons cases, although not perhaps this one in particular. Her leaving her half eaten lunch behind certainly points to her being forced to leave quickly. She deserved better out of life and deserves justice.

'Yvonne Regler would be 64 years old now, but August 8, 1977, was the last time she was ever seen.

Regler worked that day as a clerk at a gas station on Lorain Avenue in Fairview Park. When her next shift came, she was gone.

“She spent the whole day on the phone taking care of customers. (At) about noon, the folks brought her some food and (at) about 1:30, people showed up and the store was vacant. Her relieve showed up at around 2:30 and her personal belongings were left behind,” Shepard said.'

For more than four decades, a teenager’s disappearance has remained a mystery. What happened to Yvonne Regler? Could she have been abducted in broad daylight on a busy street without anyone even noticing?

Chief Shepard broke down part of the timeline of that day:

At 1 p.m., Yvonne spoke to her friend over the phone.

“And she made a comment about how a car had come through, activated the bell system that says there’s a car there and then drove away. She continued a phone conversation, but then the car came back,” he said.

She hung up and told her friend she’d call back.

Next around 1:30 p.m., Chief Shepard said a woman showed up.

“A woman purchased gas with a credit card, and Yvonne pumped that gas and you see her initials,” he said.

Sometime after that and between 2 p.m., other customers stopped by the gas station.

“People showed up to use, to purchase gas or do some work there and found the gas station empty,” Shepard said.

Around 2:45 p.m., a co-worker showed up.

That’s when Yvonne was supposed to finish her shift, but she wasn’t there.

I came across Yvonne's case the other day and having access to various online newspapers tried to string together the events and timelines from the original accounts by people who saw or talked to Yvonne on Aug 8, 1977. Some of the original accounts stated in the local papers I read vary from Chief Shepard's account here. Could be the people recalled different times when re interviewed?
Time line with people who gave first hand accounts back in August;
Yvonne's Step dad Mr. Gerald Cergol and Yvonne's mom, MaryJane got up about 6:30 AM to go fishing at Catawba Island, Lake Erie.

The night before Yvonne had been to the movies with John Apelons. She also had bought a dress for a funeral of the father of a friend of hers. The funeral is said to be the next day after she went missing, August 9. Yvonne was very upset over the death of her friend's Dad.

The owner of the two Sunoco stations Yvonne worked for, was going on vacation and asked Yvonne to cover for him at his Lorain Ave Station. She worked regularly at the other Sunoco Station on Clague Rd. (Let me point out back then working alone was done and not much thought about it. Also back then Gas stations offered both self and fulls service and Fairview Park and North Olmsted were good middle class areas.) Yvonne's shift was from 7 AM to 3 PM. An unidentified Friend drove Yvonne to the Sunoco Station.

Somewhere around Noon, David Wadsworth who at one time Dated Yvonne came to the Station with some lunch for Yvonne. When he arrived She was sitting in a chair reading a book entitled Cry Rape. I googled this title on ABE book Exchange and there were about three books with this title. The Cry Rape book Yvonne most likely had was written in 1975 the one that CBS made a movie from in 1975 which said to be very powerful. Supposedly Yvonne had two other books with her besides her purse with no ID and a 1.50 in change. How Long David Wadsworth visited with Yvonne unknown.

Around 1:30 PM Yvonne was on the phone with another friend, Terri McKenna. So one can assume by this point David may left the Station? Yvonne remarks to Terri someone left only $1 for $3 worth of gas. (who was that person and it would have been the self service pump?) Also a woman uses a credit card to purchase gas. Yvonne's initials are on the station's receipt.

Where the time line really changes from original statements and Chief Shepard's statement is when Yvonne's relief comes to the Station. According to the papers, Gary Peacock who worked at this Lorain Sunoco came to relieve Yvonne around 2:15 NOT 2:45. Around 2:50 once Gary had checked around the station, etc, Gary called the police.
So if the newspaper time line is more correct, Yvonne went missing within minutes after talking to her girlfriend, Terri McKenna. How long was Terri on the phone with Yvonne? We're talking of Yvonne being abducted with minutes between the time of talking on the phone and Gary Peacock her relief coming to the station. I find the book Yvonne was reading interesting along with the fact bringing three books to read? There was mention that a guy came around last Christmas to give Yvonne a knitted hat and later necklace. But this would have been when she was working at the other Sunoco station. Not this one where this was the ONLY Day she worked the Lorain Ave Station.
